LATEST NEWS (18 August 2025): Eccles and Eithne's puppies arrived a couple of days early - just two (one of each sex), and both spoken for. Thank you to everyone who showed an interest in our litter.

We’re very pleased to announce that Eithne is expecting what is likely to be her only litter. The puppies, by handsome Eccles (Alibren Eccles at Tannadice JW), owned by John & Brenda Taylor, are due around 19 August 2025. Eccles has given Overdene and our extended Dirnanean and Kindrogan Golden families some lovely puppies in the past, and this was instrumental in our decision to use him for Eithne’s litter. I first met Eccles as a puppy, when judging at an Open dog show in May 2019; he is a very happy, friendly boy with a lovely gentle and calm nature.

Eithne is a loyal and very loving bitch; she was the only puppy born in her mother Sibéal’s final “litter”, but all we needed to continue our Overdene direct bitch line – Eithne is our 7th generation. (We also now have her cousin Nike, daughter of Sibéal’s half-sister, Dearbhaile, bred by my sister at Dirnanean earlier this year.) Eithne has clear eyes under the scheme run by the BVA/KC/ISDS, including a 0 for gonioscopy which is examined for every 3 years. She has a hip score of 5:6 and an elbow grade of 0:0 – see results of health tests above.

Eccles has clear eyes also under the BVA/KC/ISDS scheme, including a 0 for gonioscopy. His hip score is also 5:6, with an elbow grade of 0:0. Eccles is “clear by inheritance” for ICT-A, and with both parents being “clear by inheritance” for GR_PRA1 & 2, the puppies will also be “clear by inheritance” for these conditions.

This is our first litter at Overdene for several years, and we do have a few people waiting for puppies amongst friends and family. However as with so many things in life, timing is often crucial, and for that reason we are happy to hear from people interested in offering a permanent, loving home to one of Eithne and Eccles’s puppies, should there be availability when they are born.

Our puppies are always raised in the house with access to their own safe area of the garden (weather permitting) from about 4½ weeks of age, and they can be seen with their Great Granny Rúadhnait, Great Auntie Iris, Granny Sibéal, Auntie Dearbhaile, and cousins Ríona and Nike. We do not usually allow visitors until the puppies are at least 5 weeks old.

Further information about Overdene Golden Retrievers can be found on our main page, including the fact that our puppies have their KC registrations endorsed "R" (progeny not eligible for registration) and "X" (not eligible for the issue of an export pedigree) – we never send puppies to homes overseas, even if we already know the enquirers.

Ideally, we look for homes with previous experience of Golden Retrievers, so if you are interested, please message us via the UK Champdogs "Contact my Breeder" icon, giving brief details of your family circumstances, work commitments, other pets, etc, and whether you are looking for a boy or a girl. Although we acknowledge all messages received, it is from this initial contact that we ask for further information if we may be able to help in due course. We never make any apologies for being "picky" – it's a responsible breeder's job to make sure their precious puppies go to the best possible homes where they will be loved and valued for the whole of their lives.
