Iris was bred by my sister from bitch lines all descended from our lovely old Kyriaki (Overdene Astipalaia, who died in 2013 aged 16+) through her litters by three dogs from very old lines rarely found these days. Iris came to live with us when she was 7 weeks old, and we were thrilled to have her come to Overdene, where her relatives (including 2 great grandmothers and one grandmother) welcomed this happy and respectful puppy with open paws!
Like her granny Grian (Overdene Aoibhgreine with Bramblyn - Iris's father Rufus's mother), Iris is still a few shades lighter in colour than most Overdenes, but her darker ears indicate she should end up mid-gold in due course. As is the case with all Overdene bitches, Iris has been DNA profiled; her hip score came back at 7:6, and her last eye examination under the under the KC/BVA scheme was unaffected (date of last examination November 2020). Iris also tested DNA Clear for ICT-A.
Despite making a promising start to her show career, including being shortlisted to the last 7 out of 20+ at her 2nd show, Iris decided whilst still in Junior that perhaps the show life left a bit to be desired, so she "rested" from showing until spring 2022 when, maternal duties completed in May 2021, she returned in Veteran classes.
Iris qualified for Crufts 2023 by placing 3rd in Veteran Bitch at the WELKS championship show at the end of April 2022, and in later that year, she was awarded her Stud Book number (Overdene's 3rd, and Dirnanean's 1st) as a result of placing 3rd in Open Bitch at the Three Counties Championship Show on 12 June 2022. Iris was only occasionally shown after 2022, and finally hung up her show lead in April 2024.
We are very proud of this lovely bitch, and grateful for the puppies she has given us, especially those who have stayed within our family (Piper, Hebe, Margot and Riona).
