The puppies (2 boys, 3 girls) from Iris's final litter who arrived safely 3 days ahead of time in the early hours of Wednesday, 26 May 2021 have now left for their new homes - except for Ríona who is staying at Overdene. They were all pre-booked well before their early arrival, so we'd like to thank everyone who enquired about the litter – we received over 60 enquiries in the first 20 minutes of "going live" on UK Champdogs at the end of March. Whilst we responded to all enquiries, our initial shortlist for puppies was drawn up from information we requested be provided; we choose potential homes for our precious puppies very carefully – it has never been, nor will it ever be a case of "first come, first served"!

Iris has always proved to be an exceptionally good mother, and we are delighted to finally be able to keep one of her bitch puppies here at Overdene! Descended from all our family's own Overdene, Dirnanean and Kindrogan lines, Iris was bred by my sister in 2014 - I bred her father Rufus in 2012, and we have living with us at Overdene Rufus's litter sister, who is the puppies' Great Auntie Rúadhnait, together with Rúadhnait's two daughters, Sibéal and Dearbhaile, and a lovely, older bitch, Esme, whom I rehomed in 2016 when her owner was seriously ill and unable to keep her. (Esme is also the grandmother of Iris's 2nd and 3rd litters who had Esme's son Sam as their father – sadly Sam passed away aged only 7½ in January 2021 before we had a chance to keep a puppy from him at Overdene.) Iris is clever and loving; she was shown a little as a youngster but decided when she was about 14 months old that it wasn't going to be her leisure activity of choice - which is fine by us as showing has never been our priority.

For Iris's final litter, we chose the lovely Eccles (Alibren Eccles at Tannadice JW) owned by John & Brenda Taylor. I first met Eccles when I judged him as a young puppy at an Open dog show in May 2019; he is a very happy, friendly boy with a lovely gentle and calm nature, and when he gave our Sibéal a lovely litter in autumn 2020, I knew he would be the right choice for Iris's final litter – especially as we plan on keeping a bitch puppy.

Iris has a hip score of 7:6 and a clear eye certificate under the KC/BVA scheme (date of last examination November 2020) – see results of health tests above. Eccles also has a clear eye certificate under the KC/BVA scheme (last examined November 2020), a hip score of 5:6 and an elbow grade of 0:0; he is also clear by inheritance for ICT-A and with Iris also recently tested Clear for ICT-A, their puppies are "clear by inheritance" for this skin condition according to the current published guidance. Iris and Eccles are both "clear by inheritance" for GR_PRA 1 & 2, which means that their puppies are also "clear by inheritance" for both conditions.

As always, the puppies were raised indoors with access to their own safe area of the garden from approximately 4 weeks of age (weather permitting), and they could be seen with the other Overdenes currently under our roof as outlined above; only in very exceptional circumstances do we allow visitors before the puppies are 5 weeks old.

Further information about Overdene Golden Retrievers can be found on our main page, including the fact that our puppies always have their KC registrations endorsed "R" (progeny not eligible for registration) and "X" (not eligible for the issue of an export pedigree) – we never send puppies to homes overseas, even if we already know the enquirers.
