Pectinate Ligament Abnormality (PLA)

Overview

Primary closed angle glaucoma (PCAG) / Primary angle closure glaucoma (PAGC) is associated with defective development of the drainage angle. This is termed goniodysgenesis and is also known as Pectinate Ligament Dysplasia (PLD) or Pectinate Ligament Abnormality (PLA).

Goniodysgenesis is inherited in several breeds and is tested for using a technique called gonioscopy. It is recommended that schedule A breeds are tested every 3 years.

Characteristics and Symptoms

Clinical signs include cloudiness or reddening of the eye, dilation of the pupils and vision loss.
