It is with much sadness that we report the passing of lovely Esme on Sunday, 21 January 2024.

Esme came to live with us at Overdene at the end of July 2016; her mother and our late Rayne (Overdene Drakospilia at Dirnanean) were 3/4 the same breeding, and Esme was the nearest I could have found to having a Rayne daughter at Overdene. She settled in extremely well, making us all smile with her lovely, gentle ways with constantly wagging tail, and other mannerisms that reminded us of Rayne. We are so grateful to her breeder, Paul Hambling, for letting her come and live with us at Overdene.

Esme qualified for Crufts 2017 at the Midland Golden Retriever Club's Championship Show in early December 2016, and then qualified for Crufts 2018 at the South Western Golden Retriever Club's Championship Show in March 2017. She then became the first Overdene show bitch to be awarded a Stud Book number when she placed 2nd in the Open Bitch class at the North West Golden Retriever Club's Championship Show in April 2017 - her Crufts qualifier for life - although she retired from the show ring during 2019.

We were very proud of this wonderful girl, and miss her greatly. Overdene puppies born since 2016 have never known life without her until now; she mentored them in her naughty ways, making us laugh in the process. Rest in peace, beautiful girl - free from the trials which suddenly appeared on the last day of your earthly life.
