We are very sorry to announce that Gráinne passed away on Wednesday, 18 January 2017 aged "only" 11 years - which is young for our lines. (Her sister Lily had pre-deceased her by only 3 days, and her brother Angus by 9 days.)

Gráinne was the 2nd puppy and 1st of four bitches born in her mother Kyriaki's final litter of nine by Mesdames Williams & Gough's Wilgem Star Designer. Given the nursery name "Grian" (sun or sun goddess in old Irish), it was hard to choose between her and one of her sisters, Overdene Flevariotissa (Eithne, who became Lily), who with their brother Overdene Eleftherios (Noah) stayed until they were almost 10 weeks old. In the end, it's fair to say that the rest of the "family" chose Gráinne, and common sense finally prevailed when we moved house in August 2005, and Noah eventually went to live with our new next door neighbours (where he enjoyed the life of Riley until his untimely death just before his 7th birthday in April 2012).

With the exception of her niece, Niamh (born June 2007), there was never an easier puppy to raise and train than Gráinne. She was calm, willing and very loving; amenable to all and happy not to push herself forward, we had great hopes that with her apparently equally good construction but much better "attitude" than her older full sister Aoife, Gráinne would have a more successful and happier show career. Sadly, however, it was not to be and aged about 7 months, Gráinne went to live permanently with Matty Filmer, who had Gráinne's niece, Isolde (Dirnanean Rose Garden), to whom she was devoted, and several other Golden Retrievers. Isolde died in September 2016, and Gráinne never really recovered from the loss of her soul-mate. We are grateful to Matty for giving Gráinne such a happy home.
