** We returned to the show ring after a long absence at the end of March 2025 and I was absolutely stunned and delighted when just three weeks later Shula won her class at the Golden Retriever Club of Scotland Championship Show and was then awarded the Bitch Challenge Certificate followed by Best in Show, her nephew Dingo was Best Puppy Dog, an absolutely unforgettable day! Following in the footsteps of her great granny Pepper who was Best in Show at the Northern Golden Retriever Association Championship Show in 2009 **
Shula, full sister to my beautiful Rocket. I hadn't planned to keep a puppy from Sparkle's second litter to Rex, but it was such a beautiful litter of dark golden girls, with only one boy I was spoilt for choice.
I am so glad she stayed!
Shula had a meteoric puppy career, qualifying for Crufts with 2nd in Minor Puppy at her first Championship Show age just under 7 months. She followed this by winning 1st in Minor Puppy and 2nd in Puppy at the Windsor Championship Show, where her big sister Rocket also won the Post Graduate Bitch class, a not to be forgotten day!
After that she had a whirlwind time at Open Shows, winning several Best Puppy awards, accompanied by Gundog Puppy Groups, Best of Breed awards and also adult Gundog groups!
A huge puppy career highlight was her twice winning overall day heats of the Eukanuba Puppy Stakes. On one occasion we had to make a return journey all the way to mid Wales to challenge puppy winners from other days.
Sadly not long after this, I had a knee problem caused by an old injury, which meant I could no longer run her on uneven ground. With other people running her and she looking for 'mummy' every time, she amassed 18 second places at Championship Shows, which was quite frustrating!
But with so many outstanding Open Show results, she gained her well deserved Junior Warrant.
Since then she has only ventured out a handful of times because of major health issues for me. In 2024 we attended just two Championship Shows where she was awarded 1st in Undergraduate at the Northern Golden Retriever Association with the help of a runner and 2nd at the Scottish Kennel Club, where I limped around the ring.
Shula is a fit for purpose dark golden girl who loves to run, instigates play with the younger dogs all of the time and has lots of character. I love her, almost as much as her big sister Rocket!
With excellent health test results, hips scored 6-5, elbows 0, eye tested clear including Gonioscopy grade 0, heart tested clear, hereditary clear for GR-PRA 1 & 2. DNA tested a carrier for Ichthyosis, Shula will only be mated to ICT clear dogs and it is hoped she will be mated during 2025 for the first time.
