Health Tested ⓘ
Rolo is a very handsome dark golden boy. Sadly not at stud. With the most handsome of masculine heads and great health test results eyes clear for all conditions including Gonioscopy Grade 0 for Glaucoma, DNA clear for GR_PRA1 and GR_PRA2, Hips 5-4, Elbows 0 and officially heart tested clear, I was absolutely devastated when his only mating at 6 years old resulted in no puppies to one of my own girls and a subsequent sperm test sadly showed he was infertile.
I had wanted a boy to join Chieftan when he reached the age of five, but three subsequent litters produced just one boy! Rolo was the only boy in a litter of eight, his rich dark golden colour and gorgeous head meant he could stay. Everyone who visits falls in love with Rolo and he has a waiting list of people who want to take him home!
He had an 8 month absence from the show ring as a puppy/junior, being very slow to mature in body and coat - the old fashioned way. He returned to the ring at Crufts 2018 age 18 months and was shortlisted to the final six in his class. Still growing a new coat, he resumed Open Show outings in October 2018 age 2 years and won his first Best of Breed Award with Gundog Group 4.
As a Puppy he won Championship Show firsts and Open Show Best Puppy awards. He is now a rich dark golden and is a natural free standing boy with an ever wagging tail, very bouncy - when he is pleased to see you he bounces up and down at head height! He has been Best of Breed at a couple of Open Shows on rare outings with a Gundog group place and has been consistently placed at Championship Shows including Crufts achieving his Stud Book Number.
Rolo was a real handful when he was young, mainly because of his super friendly temperament, he just loves everyone especially other dogs and anything furry. He destroyed every dog toy when he was small, including managing to swallow a natural hemp rope toy whole when just four and a half months old, resulting in abdominal surgery due to the trauma of it passing through his intestines. Eightbyears later, that has been his one and only ever visit to the vet!
Rolo matured into a sensitive and thoughtful boy, very athletic, ultra obedient, calm, caring and biddable. Rolo is very easy going, though always full of fun and a popular boy because of his good looks and cheeky but super friendly friendly attitude. He is everyone's favourite, along with his mum Dash. I have a long list of people who want to take him home!
Luckily his litter sister Sparkle had three lovely litters to Rex and I am fortunate to have their two lovely daughters Rocket and Shula and now Rocket's son and daughter too.
We are located just over the border from North Yorkshire in beautiful Barnard Castle, not far from the trans-Pennine A66 linking the A1 at Scotch Corner and M6 at Penrith.
