Dingo was never meant to stay, he was destined for a life overseas, but a planned'puppy swap' didn't go quite to plan, as I thought he looked a better prospect than his prospective counterpart. Added to the that, the fact that his mum, my beautiful Rocket, had to have a life saving ceasarean, when the first puppy became stuck in the birth canal and sadly didn't make it. This being Rocket's first and only litter, as I would never risk putting my girls through such a traumatic experience again, pushed me into keeping Dingo as well as his sister Wombat.
What a wise decision this turned out to be, as Dingo has exceeded any expectations. I thought he would be too traditional, some would say old fashioned, for most dog show judges, especially considering he closely resembles many of his distant ancestors born in the 1950s and 60s, who were on the whole dual purpose and not so heavily built or heavy in the head as many of the show winning Goldens today.
A late starter at just under 9 months old, he won his first ever Minor Puppy Dog Championship Show class and then carried on winning and winning. Dingo is truly constructed in every respect and moves just as soundly as he is made, catching the eye with his dark golden easy to manage double coat and the sweetest expression with dark eyes.
He quickly gained his Junior Warrant before leaving the puppy classes, winning Best Puppy at both Championship and Open Shows, including Best Puppy in Show wins at breed club shows and an amazing Puppy Group 2 at WELKS Championship Show.
He has continued to win Junior Dog classes at Championship Shows and at the tender age of 14 months, to my great surprise and delight was Best in Show at the Yorkshire Golden Retriever Club Open Show.
What a precocious boy he has been, especially as due to ongoing health issues I have had to hand the dogs over to others to run around the ring at shows. We have been so lucky to have the help and support of others.
Dingo is calm and laid back, unless young ladies spark his interest! He has exemplary recall to the whistle, which is just as well while his teenage mind wanders! He is an enthusiastic retriever and is always carrying something in his mouth.
Dingo has first class health results, hips 3-2, elbows 0, eyes clear, PLA/Gonioscopy grade 0 on re-examination, heart tested clear, DNA tested clear for Icthyosis and G-PRA 1&2 hereditary clear.
