At Delphox Gundogs we have the predictable and very useful Labradors and Spaniels but we also have something a little different that sets us apart from the other shoots in the area, our Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers! We have 4 adult NSDR that are all competent and well trained gundogs. To be a proficient retriever you need a variety of skills - patience (steadiness with enough drive), intelligence, a willingness to please, health and fitness, and a high level of social awareness with both people and other dogs. These are transferable skills that make our Tollers easy to take to any other situation be it the beach, park or pub!
We have recently had a much larger litter than expected from our two Tollers Kerr and Dido. On the 4th of July Dido gave birth to 11 puppies! This has meant that we have available male puppies who are looking for a home.
All our females have secured families already.
Both Kerr and Dido are here at home with us to be seen when it comes to our visit days (around the 5/6 week mark) Kerr is a handsome well boned dog who is friendly and dare I say it a bit of a goon when he meets new people, he’ll think you are there to see him and not the puppies! He wins absolutely everyone over and falls over himself for cuddles and attention, this is in contrast to his professional way on shoot days when he takes everything quite seriously and ignores all distractions to get his game. Kerr is a water lover and swims for fun.
Dido is equally friendly and seems to often fall victim to my 3 year olds ‘affection’ because of it, if being put on a lead and dragged about and being made to have dolls tea parties counts as affection, Dido however takes it all in her stride and still meets my daughter with enthusiasm every morning. Dido also enjoys our shoot days and is always steady and well behaved.
The kind of home we would like for these puppies would be active pet homes with people that have an interest in gundogs and how they are trained, we feel it’s unrealistic to want solely working homes for them as within the shooting world they are very much still a rarity however they would also excel in this kind of environment and I would love to see more doing what they were bred to do, this aside a knowledge of their origins is appreciated and you never know, it could start you on a wonderful journey of training.
Didos puppies were whelped in our home and have started early scent training already. Their social journey will be full of lots of sights and sounds of a busy household with an introduction to children, cats, other dogs, small furries and variety of farm animals. As they get older they’ll be moved to a purpose built puppy room within our kennels but will still come in to our home during the day or spend it outside if weather permits, on these days they’ll also come for mini walks around the farm yard, although the logistics of keeping track of 11 mobile, unruly puppies is daunting… we will do our best.
All puppies will be ready to go to their new homes when they are 8 weeks old on the 29th of August. Before they leave they will receive their first vaccine of DHP lepto 4, at this time they will also get their vet check and microchip. Puppy pack includes

Both myself and my husband Stuart have a huge amount of experience in training gundogs to trialing standard.
I have trained working dogs from a young age and recently started trialing spaniels with success, as a hobby my every spare day is spent on training workshops, attending and facilitating them for some of the top gundog trainers in the country, learning from these people and soaking up all the information I can to transfer to my own team.
Stuart has successfully ran commercial shoots for over 20 years he has always had black Labradors, his current Labrador is trained as a deer tracking dog while stalking in the highlands, as well as turning his hand (paw) to trialing and tests.
During the shooting season most of our time is taken up by hosting days on our commercial shoot in the Cheviot hills on the border between Scotland and England. Luckily all our dogs can join us on these days as they are all trained to the gun.
