Hebe's singleton boy puppy, now named Hector, left for his lovely new home yesterday. His new owners already have a boy of similar breeding on Hector's mother's side of the family, and were thrilled to be able to have another Golden Retriever from the old lines which are rarely found these days.

Although usually our girls only have 2 litters, we decided to let Hebe have a 3rd litter and Hector arrived safely and spot on his due date! For Hebe’s final litter, we chose John & Brenda Taylor’s young dog, Gus (Alibren Aldaniti at Tannadice JW), a lovely boy with an excellent temperament who has been siring some beautiful litters recently.

Hebe has a hip score of 3:6 and a clear eye certificate under the KC/BVA scheme (date of last examination July 2023, with a 0 grade for gonioscopy) – see results of health tests above. She is also "clear by inheritance" for the eye conditions GR_PRA1 & 2. Gus's last eye examination was in May 2023, with a 0 for gonioscopy in July 2022 (currently gonioscopy is only examined for every 3 years). He has also been DNA tested “Clear” for GR_PRA 1 & 2 which means his and Hebe’s puppy is "clear by inheritance". Gus has a hip score of 7:7 and an elbow grade of 0:0.

As is usual for our puppies, Hector was raised indoors with controlled access to an area of our garden from approximately 4½ weeks (weather permitting), and in addition to his mother, Hector could be seen with his great granny Chummy, Great Auntie Winnie (Hebe is the daughter of Winnie's older full sister), and Winnie’s daughter, his cousin Violet – all of whom live indoors as family. Only in very exceptional circumstances do we allow visitors before our puppies are 5 weeks old.

Wherever possible, we look for homes with previous experience of dogs, ideally Golden Retrievers, so we were thrilled to find exactly what we were looking for for Hector. When we receive enquiries, we make an initial shortlist from the information provided at that stage, and discuss further in due course. For us, it's never a case of "first come, first served" when finding the right permanent, loving homes for our precious puppies.
