The puppies from what may well be Dearbhaile's only litter have now all left for their new homes - many with friends and family who have had puppies from us previously - and some who had been waiting a long time!

The time since we announced the puppies' arrival has flown by, and Dearbhaile proved to be an excellent mother. The puppies' father was the lovely Woody (Shinehill Snow Patrol), owned by John & Liz Keene, who gave us a lovely litter in 2024, from which we kept Scout (Dirnanean Mockingbird). Woody also gave my sister's Overdene lines a lovely bitch puppy in 2023; my sister has known him since he was a puppy, and has always liked him! He is a typical Golden Retriever – gentle, biddable and friendly.

Dearbhaile's litter came after two unsuccessful attempts, and the decision that the timing would probably never be right for another try. At which point, Dearbhaile became a Dirnanean in autumn 2024; our Bo Peep is Dearbhaile's younger half-sister. However, we agreed she should have one last attempt and voilà, success ensued. Dearbhaile is an unfailingly cheerful bitch, happy and loving with a constantly wagging tail; she is a good mixer and my sister always claimed she was her "best retriever", despite having mostly old West Country show lines behind her.

More information about Dearbhaile could be found on her page; she is fully health tested with a hip score of 6:6, an elbow grade of 0:0, and a clear eye certificate under the KC/BVA scheme (date of last examination August 2024), including a grade 0 for gonioscopy (which is only examined for every 3 years) – see results of health tests above. Woody also has a clear eye certificate under the KC/BVA scheme (last examined September 2024), a grade 0 for gonioscopy, a hip score of 5:6 and an elbow grade of 0:0. Dearbhaile and Woody are both "clear by inheritance" for GR_PRA 1 & 2, which means that their puppies are also "clear by inheritance" for both conditions.

As always, the puppies were raised in the home and with access to a safe area of the garden (weather permitting) from about 4½ weeks of age. Visitors came for meet & greets from that time.

We have no definite plans for puppies at the moment, but further information about Dirnanean Golden Retrievers can be found on our main page, including the fact that our puppies have their KC registrations endorsed "R" (progeny not eligible for registration) and "X" (not eligible for the issue of an export pedigree) – we never send puppies to homes overseas, even if we already know the enquirers.
