the so called dream come true turned into a horrific nightmare, Willow died when the pups were 5 days old. I'm not sure whose loss was the greatest, ours or the pups. Rearing the pups has given us a focus & Willow is survived by 4 sons. Most credit has to be given to Willow's grandma, Spice, who has been absolutely fantastic with the little chaps. Washing them with a tenderness never before seen. Grandma Deme has viewed them several times a day & has now started playing with them. We have selected 4 amazing homes, all of our pups are special, but these obviously more so than ever before. We are confidant the pups will go to their new homes having received lots of dog socialisation from the grandparents & masses of love from us....we know the new owners will bring the boys to see us regularly. If the pups turn out half as gentle as their mum, they will be amazing dogs.
Willow's pups arrived 5 days early on friday. whilst understandably tiny, they are strong and feeding well. it is no great surprise that Willow is being amazing with them, although sadly she is subscribing to Spice's method of washing, which is to put her nose in the midst, toss & clean the one that lands on top.! This has met with Spice's approval, she is regularly checking the pups but interfering a lot less than she did with Deme's! Deme has also been in the box with them, big wagging tail as if to say "hurry up & get big enough to play with me"! Willow is fine about her mum & gran being with her pups. we have some really good homes lined up, due to a change in circumstances, 1 of the homes has dropped out, so there is 1 dog pup available, if you are interested, please phone, contact details on breeder page.
If you look at our last litter, also sired by Olie, you will note i said "I fell in love with Olie when i first saw him...." Willow did too, so this is a real love story! On a more practical note, Olie sired us an amazing litter of pups last year and thus we had no hesitation as to where Willow should go! (worth mentioning that as well as having great hips, amazing temperament to die for & stunning looks, Olie qualified for Crufts last year) as said elsewhere on this page, Willow was due in season in September, which would have meant a winter litter, something we weren't keen to try, but March 9th is perfect (as long as you dont count how cold it was for the mating, or the state of the roads!!!) it will be lovely to see Willow with her own pups, she is the most maternal bitch i have ever known. As always, the welping box will be in my room which is a no go area for dogs, except expectant mums, so Willow will know all is safe, and i suspect she will need this reassurance, unlike Deme, who forced me to borrow another welping box so that she could be with the other girls during the day! (and relished in their help!!) The pups will be with me at night until i am sure they are safe. the mum is never with the pups without supervision, as unfortunately pups can and do get sat on. this means not a lot of sleep, so please bear that in mind if you phone me and i sound drunk!! At aproximately 3 weeks, the pups will be given more space during the day and we have 2 huge pens in the garage. (with heating if necessary) Last year's pups were amazing on their first trip out, there was no hesitation or fear, just more room for playing. The pens are full of creature comforts and with a regular change of toys and plenty of room for humans to sit and enjoy them.
Several people have asked why i did not breed from Willow as well last year and there are 3 reasons, the first being that i never breed from my girls when they are young, they need time to have a childhood. The second being i wanted her to experience puppies before having her own & thus to be able to confirm what i expected ie, that she would be briliant with litle ones! The third reason is that i do not want to have 2 litters at the same time. This would not give us the opportunity to get to know each pup as well as we do with just one litter, thus ensuring we match the right pup to the right home. also, we such a wide socialisation programe, including car travel and carrying the pups round town as well as much more, there would not be time to do this properly! also, we really enjoy our pups, so it is better for us to space it out like this! the girls are family pets & to date, have been very involved with each others pups, which is another important side of the socialisation, thus we do not want to loose that!
so, it is fingers crossed that Willow is in pup! if you think you might be interested in a pup from this litter, please do call us. I am happy for you to meet the dog family (including last years litter from Olie & Deme) up until the pups when are born, at that point visitors are not welcome until aproximately 3/4 weeks. this is to reduce the risk of infection and out of respect for the mother. you can of course phone!
We are open to any inspection & i will spend as long as is necessary talking to you, to help you decide if we are the sort of people you wish to buy a pup off, but please afford us the same courtesy, it is very important to us to get good homes for all our pups! we are in touch with many of our pups & in particular one owner who has become a vey dear friend can always be relied on to make her boy available for people to meet, particularly important if they want a male pup, as this is a bitch only home, and the dogs end up much bigger, forewarned being forearmed!
the timing of this litter would mean they will be moving to their new homes "early May", but there is always flexibility to keep them a little longer, (this needs to be balanced, but, again, we can discuss) if required. we are also always happy to look after them when people go away.
Please note, the pictures at present are of Willow's mum's pups last summer, the dad is the same for this litter, so they will be half brothers & sisters &half neices & nephews! there are no issues to worry about with this, as Olie is not Willow's dad...... just an amazing dog, who gave us great pups last year!
STOP PRESS! IT IS LOOKING VERY MUCH LIKE WILLOW IS PREGNANT (WELL DONE YET AGAIN OLIE!) SHE IS MAKING MY LIFE VERY DIFFICULT, AS SHE IS NOT EATING VERY WELL, WHICH, UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES I WOULD IGNORE, (AS LONG AS THERE WERE NO OTHER ISSUES)BUT NOT IN THIS CONDITION! AS I TYPE, THERE IS A HIDEOUS SMELL OF LIVER WAFFTING ROUND THE HOUSE..... WHICH I AM HOPING MY BE ACCEPTIBLE TO HER LADYSHIP! The latest on the eating is that she did indeed enjoy the liver, but promtly went off it the day i got 8 packets!! she is now enjoying chicken, the liver has been frozen & i have mince in the fridge which we will eat if she doesn't, hey ho! she is happy in the welping box, which is in my bedroom, yet prefering to share my bed at night & showing her appreciation by snoring......
Big congratulations to Olie & Katie on the safe arrival of their pups this week!
with just over a week to go, Wills is huge & from here on in we will be watching her very carefully. she will not be left without human company for any length of time (no more than an hour & not at all from wednesday onwards) Deme & Spice are very attentive to her, which is lovely to see. Unlike her mum & gran, as yet Wills has not made any attempts to "build a nest" in the garden, which is a great bonus (early days though!)
As with all KC reg pups, the pups will leave here with 6 weeks free insurance. They also have a week or so's supply of food (a bag of "complete"), the litter will also be fed on fresh meat, full details supplied and a "pup pack" which includes feeding instructions, suggestions for training & socialisation., pedigree, copies of parents hip & eye tests, family photos & more. we are always available for advice & help
the latest being we have a hole in the garden, i am so suprised it has taken this long! Wills loves digging & took Deme's need to dig last year as the best excuse ever to indulge herself! feeding is becoming even more difficult & is all by hand, much to Deme's disgust (she is a little overweight & thus on a diet) despite her lack of interest in extra food (essentially she is only wanting her normal amount)Wills is looking amazing, her coat is really shiny. i just hope that when they are born her appitie will improve as the demands on her when she is lactating will be huge
