Spice came to me as a 7 week old pup from Dee & Brian, who then lived in Paignton in Devon. She was their favourite from this litter, due to the fact her mum, Cassie, had got a little carried away with "unwrapping" her new born pup ....consequently, Spice has part of her ear missing! She will be 10 this July, and whilst her beautiful deep golden coat is now very grey, if you see her running across the field, or swimming, you would never guess at her age! although dog pack rules say that she should no longer be pack leader, because she was spayed 3 years ago, and lives with her daughter and grand daughter, who haven't been spayed, she is the undisputed boss around here! Luckily for her, daughter Deme, doesn't want the responsibility, far too busy playing! Spice is a true credit to the breed and shows how healthy & fit retrievers can stay in latter years. i do hope all of Spice's off spring follow her trend! When we had our last litter of pups, she took over completely, so the pups had 2 mums! She is always delighted to see any of her pups, especially her favourite son Bobby, his owner cannot call in without him, because Spice wont stop barking at her! she takes her responsibilities very seriously, she tries telling Bobby off all the time, but he is used to his bossy mum and ignores her nagging! She is an amazing character, very different from the other 2 girls, but the 3 together give us a very unique special family
