The Brumberhill Border Terriers, Wirehaired Dachshunds and a Deerhound are a small hobby kennel, started when I bought my first BT puppy in 1980, from a local newspaper advert, at the age of 15.
Luckily for me her potential was spotted by Ted Hutchinson, who had heard about the new puppy and asked to see her. He had campaigned the then Breed Record Holder, Ch. Step Ahead, to his many wins. On seeing her, he said breed a litter from her first then I'll make her a Champion. I did....... and he did!!!! In 1982 she became Ch. Brumberhill Blue Tansy, winning her first CC with BIS at the Border Terrier Club Championship Show.
Her pedigree contained a mixture of Wharfholm, Deerstone and early Dandyhow, her great grandmother, on the tail bitch line, being a full sister to Ch. Dandyhow Shady Knight, a previous Breed Record Holder, before Ch. Step Ahead. These are all well-known top producing lines. Mated to a grandson of Ch. Step Ahead, Cheltor Michael, whose pedigree was mainly Wharfholm and Deerstone, Tansy produced two daughters, both of whom produced champions......and a Dynasty was born!!
The Kennel today, has now owned or bred 27 UK Champions, between the three breeds, plus other CC and Res CC winners, amassing a total of 188 CCs and 134 Res CCs.
The Kennel has also produced both the one time Breed Record Holder, Ch Brannigan of Brumberhill, and the current Bitch Record Holder, and no. 4 All-Time Top Winner, Ch Brumberhill Betwixt ShCM., with 31 and 29 CCs respectively.
Between them, they have re-written the History books:
Brannigan winning the Breeds first BIS at a UK All-breeds General Ch. Show, first BIS at National Terrier, Res BIS at Crufts, first, and only, post war BOB at Crufts three years in a row, seven Terrier Groups, six Reserve Groups, first Ch. Stakes Finalist, qualifying 4 years in succession.
Betwixt being the first bitch to win more than one Group, she won four, at UK All-breeds Ch. Shows, as well as being the only BT bitch to win a RBIS, and qualify for the Ch. Stakes Finals, which she has done twice and the first Champion bitch to gain her Sh.CM.
Ch.Brumberhill Benchmarked JW ShCM, a Grandson of Betwixt, created further Breed History, by becoming the first Winner of BPIS at a UK All-Breeds Championship Show, which he did at Birmingham National '10. He also won Res BPIS at National Terrier '10.
Ch. Brumberhill Bit O’ Blarney JW became the first Blue and Tan male to win a UK Championship Show Terrier Group, at Leeds ‘25.

The Brumberhill Border Terriers, Wirehaired Dachshunds and Deerhound, between them, have won, at All-breed General Championship Shows 1 X BIS, 4 X RBIS, 1 X BPIS, 1 x RBPIS, 1 x Reserve BVIS, 12 X Group 1, 12 X Group 2 ( or Reserve Group ), 1 x Group 3, 4 x Group 4, 4 X Puppy Group 1, 4 x Puppy Group 2 , 1 X Puppy Group 3, 3 X Puppy Group 4, 4 X Veteran Group 1, 2 x Veteran Group 3 and 6 X qualifying for the Pedigree Stakes Finals. The Border Terriers, Ch. Brannigan, Ch.Betwixt, Ch.Bittersweet, Ch.Bewitched, Ch.Bestseller, Ch.Belle De Jour, Ch.Benchmarked, Bejewelled, Betrothal, Ch. Back T' Future, Ch. Backatcha, Ch. Bit O’ Blarney JW and Brumberhill Beswick, the Wirehaired Dachshunds Ch. Bellissima, Ch. Treis Pinheiros Obi Kenobi, Brumberhill Biscuit To Ambiesque and the Deerhound, Antonius Vertragus The-Ngong-Hills being responsible for these wins.
The Kennel has owned the Top Winning Border Terrier in '84, '86, '87, '88, '01, '04, '05 & '07, Top Puppy '84, '85, '86, been Top Breeder '04, '05, '06 (Joint), '07, '08, '09 and owned the Top Brood Bitch '08, '09 (Joint) and Our Dogs Top Sire '08, Our Dogs Top Wirehaired Dachshund Stud ‘22, Our Dogs Top Border Terrier Stud ‘24, despite breeding only, infrequently, when we want a new puppy to show.
