Zeus, that One in A Million Lead Dog and the most perfect boy I will ever meet on or off the trail. An old school working dog, he was a National Championship Silver Medal winner and even as a veteran remained unbeaten in monosports almost until the end.

Thank you for all the years of happiness, for looking after the girls and raising puppies, for fighting the odds to stay with us as long as you did because you knew we weren't ready, and for the legacy you have left us with in your line. Human negligence took you before your time, but eternity would never have been long enough.

Tonight, through DNA tracing, I learned something that makes my heart swell with pride. My beloved Zeus, though long since passed, carried the rare mitochondrial haplotype A465 (haplogroup A1e) — the same marker now confirmed in Athena and all Inukshuk-born Siberians.

This discovery is profound. A465 is not just rare — it is a direct genetic link back to the original Chukotkan sled dogs, a marker of purity and old-school Siberian type that few modern lines can claim. To know that Zeus carried this, alongside Athena’s dam, means his legacy was never just in spirit, but written deep in his blood.

Some dismissed his early pedigree because it passed through backyard breeders, but behind those names were the very same greats that shaped our breed. I always knew Zeus was special. Now the science confirms what my heart always told me — he was carrying one of the most precious and authentic bloodlines we have in the world.

Zeus’s gift continues on: through Athena, her daughters, their puppies, and through his sister Kira's legacy at Mysticwolf Siberian Huskies. His line is an unbroken thread stretching back to the northern skies where the sled dogs first ran.
