Nuthouse Rhodesian Ridgebacks

Breeder of:

  • Rhodesian Ridgeback

We are a small hobby kennel who have been owned by Rhodesian Ridgebacks since 1986. We show our dogs all over the UK & have the occasional litter, Sally also judges the breed.

Our foundation bitch was our 3rd RR; Champion Sansilver Pumalanga (Pet name Abby).

We are PROUD to be able to say we have NEVER culled a healthy puppy because of its ridge (or lack of) even when it was recommended to in the breed. Our first litter contained a ridgeless boy who lived until he was 14.

Four generations of our dogs lived happily together in the home. We breed for type and temperament from health tested dogs with great results- you will see from pictures and critiques that our dogs have bone and substance but not so much that they could not do the job that they were originally bred for. Health & temperament are very important to us as is balance and movement. We are fully aware that a perfect ridge does not alone make a show quality ridgeback & often the best dog has a cosmetic fault with their ridge making this a frustrating breed for a show kennel sometimes.

We like to show our dogs to confirm they are good representatives of the breed & to ensure we can find the best possible stud dogs to use in our breeding plan - we are not commercial breeders having bred 19 quality litters in 38 years at the time of updating this. Although our dogs are shown, when retired we do not move them to new homes & they live as pets with us in the home, neither do we move on our dogs once they are no longer any use to us for breeding purposes.
