Lightbringer

We are a small hobby kennel, showing, working and occasionally breeding Black and Chocolate Labradors. All our dogs live in the house with us and are a major part of the family. We show at Open and Championship shows when we can and we have had some good placings at open shows - including several Best of Breed awards and our dogs have had regular placings at Championship shows - including a first place. We are proud to have qualified six home bred dogs for Crufts in the breed ring and Hazel, Bailey, Megan and Emma have all produced Crufts qualified offspring. We also compete in the BASC gamekeepers ring at Crufts.

All our dogs have had gundog training and all of our home bred dogs have been picking up on various shoots for 14 years and counting. Our dogs regularly attend gundog training days - including water training, walked up days and shoot over days. Megan, Ebony, Rosie, Emma and Maisie (5 generations of home bred bitches) have all been awarded the KC Working Gundog certificate on game after being assessed on shoot days picking up. Our older dogs have all passed the Kennel Club Good Citizen award dog scheme Bronze, Silver and Gold and the younger ones have at least passed Bronze level.

Two of our Labradors have been Pets as Therapy dogs and several of Bailey's offspring have gone to Canine Partners to be trained as Assistance dogs and another one is a trained Diabetic alert dog. One of Emma's offspring is in training with Dogs for good.

We only breed a litter when we want to keep a puppy which is usually every couple of years. Any bitches we breed from usually have two litters, three as a maximum. All our dogs are hip scored, elbow scored and eye tested and we also test for PRA, HNPK, CNM, SD2 and DM. We DNA test our chocolate Labradors to ensure they don't carry the dilute gene and we now test our bitches for Copper Toxicity. This ensures that our dogs and any puppies we breed will never be affected by these conditions. We choose stud dogs that compliment our bitches and that produce offspring with typical Labrador heads, good conformation, working ability with superb temperaments.

Many of our puppy buyers have returned to us for a second or third dog over the years and are lifelong friends. I am a breed specialist judge and judge Labradors at Open shows and I am a serving member of the Cotswold & Wyevern LRC committee. I am also qualified to assess dogs for the KC WGC and a member of several Breed clubs.
