With over 32 x Field Trial Champions and FT winners in her pedigree, at her very first Field Trial event "Star" came in 6th within a very strong field; with the Labrador Retriever Club of Wales, she was following in some very illustrious footsteps..!
She also came in a very laudable 3rd place -- at Usk Valley Working Gundog Club -- when she finished only 1pt behind the 2nd placed dog (which was only 10pts behind the winner..!) an event which was, in fact, won by Star's 1/2 brother..!) A winning bloodline continued..!
Star was mated with SGWC (show-gundog Working Certificate) holder "Rockledge Wordsmith of Carpenny" RCC chosen, after reviews of his progeny and pedigree/background, as being very compatible with plans for Star.
Before taking a break to have pups, Star's next outing was with The United Retriever Club (URC) ~ she was fit, healthy and raring to go... and 5 weeks in whelp... which didn't slow our girl, she eagerly took part and did rather well too... 6th with scores of 19/20; 18/20; 17/20; 18/20 and for her last test (she was slowing up!) 8/20...
After having pups she continued having fun trialling while we ran on two of Star's puppies ("Cally" and "Creek") and, when Cally proved to have no love for Gundog training -- but was so biddable -- a plus for a good Assistance Dog -- Cally was donated to "Dogs for the Disabled" over in Oxford... a most worthwhile role to fill..! while sister, Creek, continued her training within kennels; later proving a very useful member of picking-up teams until her retirement to Rosalthe's family in Boadway as a companion to her other dog "Boris".
After several outings and having fun out field trialling -- and having a lovely litter of pups -- Star went out picking-up, then sat by the fireside contemplating days of glory... She has been a great dog to share updates -- and time -- with...
For her retirement Star was at a farm near Broadway; doing the occasional pigeon shooting foray... to then sit by another fireside; dreaming of pigeons... and days gone by...
"Thank you Star"...!
