WHY Teach Puppies Young

I Do See Problem Dogs but Most Problems Are Preventable!

I prefer to help owners prevent problems ever starting. Puppies' 'critical socialisation' period is the 3-12 week age, when they accept new things as normal but as they grow on through puppyhood, fear related problems commonly develop in under-habituated dogs. These range from timidity, poor decision making and concentration making it harder for people to teach them new skills later, to aggression.

Very often owners do not become aware of this until the dog approaches 'teenage'. By then we are playing 'catch up' which sometimes lasts for life.

Also, early training starts a great dog-owner bond. A dog's first year has many developmental challenges, including natural 'fear periods' for even the best raised puppies.
Pre-empting these with positive guidance makes a huge difference how they 'come out the other side.'

'Socialisation & Habituation' should be about learning social manners. Plus getting used to all the bg wide wider world to learn what is 'normal'. Giving them an early variety of experiences plus guided learning really does affect a young puppy's brain power.

A Well Raised Puppy Is A Joy To Live With And To Love.
