Based near Lockerbie in South West Scotland; breeding show, working and show x working labradors. We live in a lovely rural and scenic area and our dogs enjoy walking in the local forests and swimming in the rivers and lochs.

I have had labs since 1997, and I work and show my dogs. We have been relatively successful so far, breeding Champions and CC winners - all chocolate, plus numerous other dogs which have gained their stud book numbers and won at championship shows. We have also gained working test awards (some with show-bred chocolates!), Show Gundog Working Certificates and Working Gundog Certificates, demonstrating that the dogs have proven working ability. I'm proud to have bred, owned and trained the first two Scottish-bred, chocolate, full Champion labradors - including the first chocolate in the UK in nearly forty years to become a full champion! A true dual purpose labrador, Maya was able to win at the highest level in the show ring as well as work well and prove her working ability under field trial judges.

I work a team of picking up dogs on local commercial and private shoots - during the 22-23 season we did around 70 days. We also enjoy working tests during the summer. I often breed show lines to working lines with the aim of achieving a slightly better boned, better coated dog which is still fast enough and trainable enough for gundog work but with a bit more substance and coat than many working labradors, in order to try to avoid the tail and ear injuries which are unfortunately common in working bred labs.

Temperament is a priority; I like my labradors to be able to do what they were designed for as well as live in family homes with young children, so that means a sensible, biddable temperament is the aim.

I make full use of health testing schemes for hips, elbows and eyes plus DNA testing for prcd-PRA, HNPK, EIC, SD2, CNM, MCD and Stargardt. All the stud dogs are DNA profiled and are only available to approved health tested bitches.

Breeding 'dual purpose' labradors (ie, labradors which are capable of showing and working to a minimum, tested, standard) isn't as simple as mating any show bred to any working bred - it's much more subtle than that. It's a careful blend of looks, ability and temperament and I'm proud that many of my show/working bred team have been able to place in the ring at championship shows as well as gain working test awards or Working Gundog Certificates.
