My thanks to the d's and exhibitors for the lovely entry and for braving the extreme heat. I was impressed with the overall quality and could happily have given 5 d's and 4 b's a CC. I feel that perhaps breeders should pay more attention to head qualities. Some d's had small eyes, several showed too much white around the eye, maybe something I penalised harshly as it does spoil the expression, and there were two level bites. Some were far too EBnosey' and they often had narrow muzzles too. Most of the dwere in good condition, but a few lacked any muscle tone. The standard uses the word muscular more than once. I am sad to say that two were dirty and smelly. There is absolutely no excuse for this. Balance, so hard to achieve, was lacking in some, too high on the leg, or too low to ground. Of course, all had superb temperaments.

PD (7). What an exciting class of young d's, which augurs well for the future. 1 Henderson's Bumbledor Takitimu. Dark brindle with a v promising head, round dark eyes, well wet ears and good profile, all giving a typical Frenchie expression. Enough bone, good straight front and feet. Well muscled and good on the move. Needs time to fill out, but a v promising youngster; 2 Partridge Abbeymill Mr Bojangles. Well brindled, v shapely body with a good spring of rib, and cut up. Shorter and cobbier than 1, but his head is not quite so well finished yet. Nevertheless the essentials are there, and he has so much quality. I liked his size and he has great ring presence, and is already a good showman; 3 Hammond's The Pheasant Chaser.
