ENM is a recessive spinal degenerative disease whereby the white matter of the spinal cord degrades in the neck region, affecting the motor function of the muscles of the hind limbs.
Hereditary necrotising myelopathy causes progressive spinal degeneration in affected dogs. Clinical signs begin with paralysis of the hind limbs, an inability to place their feet, scuffed toes, excessively worn nails, shuffling and loss of coordination before progressing to an inability to walk within a few weeks.
