Spondylocostal Dysostosis (Comma Defect)
The spondylocostal dysostosis (comma defect) is a hereditary disease caused by a deletion in the HES7-gene. The condition is characterised by truncal shortening, extensive hemivertebrae (wedge-shaped vertebrae) and rib anomalies including malalignment, fusion and reduction in number. Affected dogs are stillborn or die shortly after birth.
