Basset Hound Health Certificate Scheme
Overview
The aim of the health assessment is to encourage all owners and breeders to have their dogs assessed for visual conditions that may cause pain or discomfort due to exaggerated conformation. The health assessment forms will provide the Basset Hound Health Group with valuable data relating to the health of the breed.
Bronze Level Certificate
This is designed for young Basset Hound’s to undergo a basic health assessment. (From 6 months)
- Basic sounding with a stethoscope.
- Visual/auditory assessment of the dogs breathing.
- Visual assessment of the Nostrils, Skin, Ear Canals.
- Basic clinical assessment of the Eyes.
- Establish hearing or not
- Tail, Testes & Temperament
- General comments
Silver Level Certificate
To claim your Basset Hound’s Silver Level Certificate he/she must meet the following criteria
- To have obtained the Bronze Level Certificate.
- To have undergone a KC/BVA Gonioscopy Test, irrespective of the result.
Silver Plus+ Level Certificate
To claim your Basset Hound’s Silver+ Level Certificate he/she must meet the following criteria.
- To have obtained the Bronze Level Certificate.
- To have undergone a KC/BVA Gonioscopy Test, and received an Affected result.
- To have undergone a POAG DNA Test, and been graded 0-1 or 2 Unaffected.
Gold Level Certificate
To claim your Basset Hound’s Gold Level Certificate he/she must meet the following criteria.
- To have obtained the Bronze Level Certificate.
- To have obtained the Silver Level Certificate.
- To be KC/BVA Gonioscopy unaffected.
Gold Plus+ Level Certificate
To claim your Basset Hound’s Gold Level Certificate he/she must meet the following criteria.
- To have obtained the Bronze Level Certificate.
- To have obtained the Silver Level Certificate.
- To be KC/BVA Gonioscopy unaffected.
- To be POAG DNA Clear.
Diamond Level Certificate
To claim your Basset Hound's Diamond certificate he/she must meet the following criteria :
- To have obtained the Gold Plus+
- To be DNA tested for Lafora's Disease
