Chondrodysplasia is an inherited bone and cartilage disorder in the Norwegian Elkhound. It is an autosomal recessive disease and is associated with mutation in the ITGA10 gene. The mutation causes abnormal endochondral ossification at the growth plates of long bones.
Affected dogs suffer from dwarfism. Radiographic findings include: curved front limbs, carpal valgus, shortening of vertebral bodies and delayed ossification of carpal bones.
There is no treatment for this condition. Genetic testing can identify carrier and affected animals.
