Canine cystinuria can be divided into three groups, type I (autosomal recessive), type II (autosomal dominant), and type III (also known as non-type I).

Cystinuria Type II - A has been found in the Australian Cattle Dog

Characteristics and Symptoms

The condition is characterised by the formation and accumulation of cystine stones in the kidneys, bladder or ureters.

The stones can result in obstructions of the urinary tract and bacterial infections.

Treatment and Prevention

If caught early, Cystinuria can be managed with dietary changes, increased water intake, and certain medications. If stones develop, surgical removal is often necessary.
