Progressive Retinal Atrophy (rcd-1)

Overview

Progressive retinal atrophy (rcd1) is an inherited autosomal recessive disease. It is an early-onset disorder leading to night-blindness and eventually total blindness.

Characteristics and Symptoms

Symptoms can occur as early as six weeks of age and by 1-2 years old most affected dogs are completely blind.

Prevention

DNA testing can be carried out to identify clear, carrier and affected dogs.
