Cone-rod dystrophy type 1 is an autosomal recessive inherited condition which causes degeneration of the cone and rode cells in the retina.
Early onset retinal degeneration results from mutations in PDE6B and IQCB1 respectively.
Visual impairment can be observed at less than one year of age with severe blindness by early adulthood. There is no treatment for this condition.
DNA testing can be used to identify clear, carrier and affected dogs.
