RIOJA is the a 5th generation dog in my male line and carries all the traits of his forefathers, although he has a good share of his dam in terms of his appearance.
A compact example of the breed, his guarding instincts were not suited to the showring, where he was often placed but was not so happy. He has, however, been a willing blood donor and thus saved many canine lives.
After moving to our smallholding, he found his vocation and is the perfect companion and minder for me when working outside and tending our livestock, not chasing anything we have but quite alert to any unwanted company, especially in the cold dark winter months.
