1st Higham's Callastaff Lakeland Lad
I just loved this black brindle dog, what a puppy, a head to die for with a stunning expression, he has the neatest of ears that frame his head beautifully, his eyes are coal black and round. Correct bite. A good depth and width to his skull, just so clean in his lip too. His last puppy class, I believe, and his maturity showed in this class. He is in lovely condition, gleaming from head to toe with health and fitness, a balanced puppy with very clean lines and no exaggeration. Balanced in head and body. Front is straight with the correct weight of bone to show strength but not overdone. Strong neck blending nicely into well-placed shoulders, top-line level with short-coupled body and balanced depth of brisket for rib. Powerful rear quarters with ample bend to stifle. Correct tail set, moved and handled well. My best puppy dog who was beaten to best puppy in show by his sister. Cant wait to see his progress in the ring, for me he is stunning.

Body shaping up nice showing a pleasing outline. Shoulders well laid back, with a clean front and good bone. Body compacted with nice amount of rib, top line good which he kept level on the move. Another virtue delivery regarding this lad, Black Brindle standard size who provides all the listed standard requirements as required, headshape is excellent with well pronounced cheek muscles, correct bite neat ear carriage with a cracking expression, well boned throughout with excellent pigmentation, stands foursquare with his correct fore and rear quarters, moved ok but went a little naughty when called back in for the challenge, further wins on the cards for this boy.

Crufts 2017, Dean Cund, Junior dog (23 entries)
2nd Higham Callastaff Lakeland Lad another top quality youngster listening back to my notes I commented this dog should make an easy champion as should my CC winner. loved his style & type displaying a super head, so clean with excellent expression, lovely true straight front with correct angulation of shoulders showing good length of upper arm, beautiful dog when shown in profile displaying all of his excellent virtues and there are many, moved well both ways, a lovely example of the breed called back in to challenge for the RCC but didn't get his act together on the move.

BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 2017, Judge: Mr Harry Coble, YD (7,1a)
1 Higham's Callastaff Lakeland Lad, standard size b/br with an excellent clean cut head, good bite with decent size teeth, neat well placed ears & dark eyes, which enhance his expression. Stands four square & presents a pleasing outline. Shown in fit condition, moved well in front but would have liked a more positive rear action. A classy dog that should have a good future;

A dream of a class to judge with places decided by the narrowest of margins!
1st. Higham CALLASTAFF LAKELAND LAD managed to tick 9 out of 10 boxes for me. What a quality dog this is. As an overall package this boy blew me away! His size and balance is there for all to see. Standing four square he presents a picture in my minds eye of the almost perfect Staffordshire Bull Terrier. In his gleaming short black coat this boy has a broad skull of depth with small rose ears and dark round eyes which are placed correctly in the head. His strong muzzle and defined stop is complemented by the tightest of lips which all add up to a picture perfect expression. Regular scissor bite with large white and strong canines. A short muscular neck flows into a gun barrel front assembly and his tight well padded feet enhance his latent power when viewed head on. Enough depth of brisket here to give ample daylight without appearing "shelly". His rib is well sprung and of length to a strong loin. Hindquarters have plenty of musculation which powers him along with effortless ease. Up on his toes all the time this boy seems to know how good he is! A natural showman it won't be long before he gains his title. It was my pleasure and a privilege to award him the CC and in agreement with my co-judge BIS.

1st HIGHAM, Mark, Callastaff Lakeland Lad, black/brindle, what can I say, I could not take my eyes of this dog, his presence as he walked into the ring, the shine on his coat, so dark, his Stafford smile, this dog commanded your attention, I have seen him outside the ring and he caught my eye, but until I saw him close up and examined, I was more surprised, his condition and fitness, he is well constructed from correct head to skull ratio, big white teeth, correct dentition, tight lipped, neat rose ears, and the happiness of this dog, he just loves the show ring. The strength of neck flows into correct shoulder placement, through to the spring of rib and tuck up, bend of stifle, to tight feet with dark nails, pump handle tail, he wants to run up and down the mat, but his handler soon gets the best out of him and he is at one with her once settled, it was with no hesitation that he won this class. In the final line up he was my C.C WINNER , and to K.C approval, the breeds newest CHAMPION… also BEST IN SHOW, and with my co-judge MR BILL BLACKER (CROSSGUNS) in agreement.

OPEN DOG (13/1)
1st Higham's CALLASTAFF LAKELAND LAD B/Br who is quite captivating as a top quality example of breed type. He has an air of regal arrogance as he stands freely, enticing you to look and look again, which I did. Very balanced blend of bull and terrier straight out of the top drawer. His clean head piece shows good depth and width of skull, deep through muzzle and of balanced proportions with a defined stop. Length of muzzle in comparison to his skull was for me spot on; no exaggeration no excess flesh just classic head profile. He has a pleasing expression with well set dark round eyes and the neatest of ears. Correct teeth and bite with good underjaw. I liked his front on appearance with smooth lines from good shoulder into straight well boned front assembly and neat feet with good pads. Up on his pasterns and looking alert at all times. Looking at him from the side his profile showed good underline, with correct depth of brisket and shapely tuck up into well covered loin. A picture of good all round balance and structure. Good bend to his stifle and let down of hock. Well muscled shapely rear with good inner and outer thigh . He moved with drive and purpose, parallel fore and aft. Stood foursquare with an imposing profile. Extremely eye catching dog who is one to challenge the best. Typical example of the breed for me and one who will go on to please many a Judge as theres such a lot to admire here. His handler knows just how to get the best from him but his ring presence and many attributes were there for all to see. A compendium of distinction and class. A real credit to his breeders and owners. He competed well in this class and for the Challenge and with no hesitation resulted in my awarding him the Dog CC and with the Referees decision BEST OF BREED. He also went on the take Group 3 in the Terrier Group - a fantastic day all round for a top notch dog.
