'Juakali' is a Swahili word which means Hot Sun.
Sunny is my 'keeper' from Elsa's second litter and is a full brother to Rocco.
Sunny had an amazing 2011. He made his debut in the show ring at East of England Championship show at the age of 6 months and 4 days old, still very much a baby. He exceded all my expectations and gained two Crufts qualifiers from the day.
In August at the Scottish Kennel Club Championship Show he achieved Best Puppy in Breed and Reserve Best Dog.
In September he was awarded Best Puppy in Breed at Richmond Championship Show and Best Puppy In Show at Carlisle and District Limited Show.
November was a very busy month! He went Best Puppy In Show at the Northern Basenji Society and Best Of Breed and Best Puppy in Breed at Tyne, Wear and Tees Hound Association. Then to top the month off, he was Reserve Best in Show and Best Puppy In Show at Whitehaven And District C.A. Limited Show.
Sunny finished 2011 by winning Best Puppy In Breed at LKA Championship Show.
During 2012 , Sunny has been consistently placed at all of his shows and won the Open Stakes at the Houndshow at just 19 months old. At Darlington Championship Show, he was awarded Reserve Best Dog, being beaten by his big brother Rocco for the top honours. He topped off the year winning Reserve Best in Show at Whitehaven & District Canine Association.
2013 started with a bang! Not to be outdone by the rest of the family, Sunny pulled out all the stops to win Reserve Hound Of The Year at the Tyne, Wear & Tees Hound Association, Hound Of The Year competition.

"Memetuka Juakali, just over 12 months, this young boy has all the qualities of a winner, head & body befitting the Standard as near as you can get, presented & handled very well, superb temperament, clean in outline, good bone & feet, lovely reach in front, moving very true & positive he went around this big ring with swiftness, topline never faltered as he took the initiative from his handler, am sure he will get in the top honours before long & go from strength to strength."

"Memetuka Juakali, Basenji, red/white, pulled out all the stops to win this class. Masculine head of correct proportions with some wrinkle with well placed mobile ears, super expression, excellent length in neck with desired crest, topline and tailset spot on with good tight curl, plenty of shelf in his rear, bone is of quality with correct feet, loved his general outline on the stack, which displays good leg length, on the move he put his best foot forward displaying a typical 'swing' holding his outline at all times, in excellent condition."
MR. MARTIN SANDERS.
Sunny was the quiet one of the litter. Although very loving, he is a little more reserved than his big brother Rocco and is more of a 'thinker'.
He decided that a show career wasn't really for him and so he was retired from the show ring early.
Like all our dogs, he continues to live with us and is still an active member of the pack.
