History

The Miniature American Shepherd breed was developed from the breeding of miniature Australian Shepherds in California in the 1960s. The breed was first registered in America in 1980 and was originally called the Miniature Australian Shepherd.

Characteristics

This breed is intelligent and it is a working dog with strong herding and guarding instincts. They make great companions and are easy to train. Although they can be reserved around strangers, they should not display shyness. They are a protective breed of their family and show devotion, loyalty and are good natured.

Health

The Miniature American Shepherd is a relatively healthy breed and shares the same health testing requirements as the Australian Shepherd.
