Caoimhe, Kurlibears September Truffle at Cooishka. This girl, beautiful inside and out, first brought me to my love of Spanish. She is the dog that got me started in the show ring, putting up with my many mistakes with her good grace and always doing her best for me.
Caoimhe has attained her prestigious Kennel Club Stud Book number through showing and has done fantastically for me, including being placed at Crufts. She has also been handled in the ring, on more than one occasion, by young children she hasn’t met before and her temperament is second to none, holding her Kennel Club Bronze level Good Citizens Test. She is kind and gentle and loves everyone.
When she isn’t in the show ring, Caoimhe adores the water and swimming at both the beach and in rivers, she would spend hours water retrieving if I let her. She also loves our country side walks and is well behaved around livestock. I have started a little Gundog training with her and hope to expand on this later on.
Fiadh, ShCh Prizelands Fondant Fancy at Cooishka JW.
Fiadh holds the record as the youngest Spanish Water Dog to be awarded her Junior Warrant, gaining her final points on the day she turned just nine months old. She has absolutely flown in the show ring, being crowned Top Spanish Water dog Puppy 2022. A showgirl through and through and I’m not sure I’ve ever been so proud to see her made up as a Show Champion at still only 19 months old.
When not in the show ring, Fiadh’s favourite past time is finding any kind of mud to get in (Great fun when you need to get those paws white again!) and she loves our countryside and beach walks, especially swimming. Her temperament is also fantastic, meeting everyone with great enthusiasm whilst remembering her manners and if we have any visitors to the house, she will absolutely hope they will let her sit on their laps!
Fiadh attained her Bronze Kennel Club Good Citizens Certificate at just five months old!
In between walks, shows and adventures, we are at home and I am virtually always with my dogs. I have a busy household and five children, so the dogs are used to the hustle and bustle of that and the noise involved, as are any puppies we breed. My girls really are cuddle monsters and they love our human company, always wanting to be close to us. I feel truly blessed to have these wonderful girls in our lives!
I came into Spanish Water Dogs when looking for a smaller, perhaps more challenging Gundog breed after having had Golden Retrievers for many years. I mentioned to Caoimhe’s breeder that I would like to maybe give showing a try and haven’t looked back! It’s become a hobby that I love, (of course helped along by some
success) and it is what I can be found doing with my dogs most weekends in the summer.
I had no idea how much I would come to love this breed and all of their quirks. They are intelligent, forward thinking dogs who never seem to forget a thing and they make me smile and laugh every single day.
I only breed occasionally, usually when I want a puppy to keep myself and aim for true breed type and health, but temperament is also of utmost importance to me. My dogs are wonderful, family dogs I can take anywhere and I want my future puppy families to experience the same.
