My dogs are my friends and companions first and foremost. My last golden retriever passed 10 years ago, by which time it was getting hard work to keep a golden bathed and trimmed regularly. Hence my lovely black lab came to join my then miniature dachshund. My family always had a standard dachshund, smooth and wirehaired, in the house, and we all fell for their unique characters. They just make you smile. I can't imagine ever being without a dog!
