"Mirengo's Maiya with Mutoko" - " Maiya" joined us in Oct 03. For her 1st show I decided to make the trip to Scotland and boy was it worth it. Under breed judge Mrs Toni Agnew we won BPIB. This was amazing and I floated home that evening. Things continued to get better. Maiya gained her JW at 12 months, she qualified through to the JW finals at Crufts 2006, placed 1st in Post Grad Crufts 2005, amongst many other 1st places at Championship level and group placings at open.
Maiya gained her first top award at Richmond 2005 gaining a RCC under breed specialist Cath Davis. We then went on to win Best of Breed at South Wales Champ Show under Brian Dyson (no tickets). Our next major win was at the Hound Association under breed specialist Mrs Kirsteen Maidment we won the BCC, what a fantastic day. In December 2006 at LKA our breed were to be judged by Mrs Cath Davis, having already won the RCC last time she judged I went along with hope and anticipation. I think this is the most nervous I have ever been in the ring. When we were pulled 1st in our class, I hadn't even realised until the steward called me. In the challenge I was a wreck and once I was awareded the BCC i burst into tears. What an emotional time. We had no time for breath before we were pulled in for BOB, challenging a lovely dog I would have been happy to walk away. Maiya showed her socks off and was awarded BOB. Later we had to show in the group ring, this was quite an experience, a large group with so many familiar faces, ones that you see in the paper week in week out. Maiya's turn came and she floated round the ring, she absolutely loved it, all the attention and she said look at me. We were shortlisted and I was completey taken aback, we had another go before the awards were made. We had come 4th. Unbelieveable! What a day! Now we wait and see if we are able to gain the 3rd. Even if we don't she'll be a champion in my heart.
Maiya gained her 3rd CC with BOB at Manchester 2008. Maiya is now the worthy champion that I always knew she was. Huge thanks go to the breed Judge Karen Rimmer for an amazing start to the year.
Maiya has been mated to Ch Jhuma Jarza of Nzuri JW ShCM and puppies are due 23rd April.
