Rally's second and final litter ended up being a bit of a disaster what with one thing and another. Only five survivors and I had no choice other than to keep Rorie's sister Rumba too, due to a problem with her being unable to open her mouth properly from five and a half weeks old following an infection, which ended any plans of a further litter from Rally. However on the bright side, with only five puppies to look after, we were able to foster five orphaned Boxer puppies whom Rally looked after alongside her own babies until they were old enough to return to their breeder at four weeks old.

Of the four girls, Rorie weedled her way into staying, she is the palest Golden ever to have stayed and is very like her father in looks with his pale wild coat, but with many of her mother's mannerisms. Her spectacular movement always caught the eye and she stands so four square always wagging her tail.

Because I spent so much time looking after the medical interests of her dark golden sister taking Rumba here there and everywhere, Rorie lacked early socialisation, which meant she became very dependent on me. Her first year was one of turbulence during which I lost three older dogs, two unexpectedly including my dear Reiver, so we didn't venture far from home.

Rorie has matured from a gangly teenager into a really pretty young lady. She is very well made with a lovely head and expression, but as a rangy Junior lacking coat she largely stayed at home. Very active and lively, she loves her walks on Salisbury Plain and never strays far, she is very much a mummy's girl.

Rorie at 18 months had been to only one Championship and two Open Shows, winning Best Puppy at one of them. In the summer she went to two Companion Shows just for the practice and won the Gundog class at both, very pleased to win one class under Jean Lanning who has formerly judged Best in Show at Crufts! She remarked how nice it was to see an old fashioned Golden (in spite of Rorie's colour!) that wasn't coarse like so many Goldens these days. At 19 months old Rorie ventured back into the show ring at the Southern Golden Retriever Club Open Show and won all three of her classes, testament to her growing confidence.

Rorie thoroughly enjoyed keeping her baby cousins entertained when she was still a puppy herself and her first litter was the making of her, she proved to be an outstanding mum just like her mum Rally before her and her confidence visibly grew yet further. And what an outstanding litter it was, all dark golden and although I never planned it, one just had to stay as they looked so good. After five months, Acer's 'grandparents' Jack & Lindsey Hazelton (Cailloch Golden Retrievers) met her at a show and said they would like to have her if I would consider letting her go. They were the only people I would have chosen to have her, so she went to live with her other family in Gloucestershire. Acer (Tenfield Red Sunset over Cailloch) qualified for Crufts at her very first Championship Show and then won Minor Puppy Bitch at her second. Since then she has won Best Puppy and Puppy Group places at Open Shows and Best Puppy Bitch at a Breed Club Open Show as well as several Championship Show firsts. Not only that, but her sister Ray (Tenfield Rainbow Ray)has ventured into the show ring with her owner Lucy Hart and at their very first show won her first red rosette with Best Any Variety Gundog Puppy and second in a big Puppy Stakes class at Westbury Open Show and then second behind her sister at the Breed Club Open Show in front of more experienced and seasoned exhibitors. We are very proud of them both!

Rorie produced her second litter of eleven in June 2016 and all had homes waiting before they were born. She has been a fabulous mum, but after a prolonged labour this second time, four stillborn puppies as well as a boy that required surgery to repair an umbilical hernia, I decided to keep her daughter (Mara) as I probably won't breed from Rorie again. Such a shame as she has produced stunning children!
