Pascha came into our lives shortly after my mother had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Mum died on 18 Jun 96 and Pascha came to live with us on 20 Jul 96 at 10 weeks old. From the moment of coming into our home she made her mark. Our first golden retriever, she showed us what a clever and loyal breed we had chosen. She made us laugh with her funny antics, although they often frightened the life out of us. At four months old she ate one of Paul's long woolen socks whole, the next day she ate the other one making a matching pair. After a trip to the vet and much patience, three days later the socks reappeared at the bottom of the stairs, having been vomited back up whole. To say we were shocked would be an understatement. On return from a shopping trip we were greeted by Pascha sporting a fetching green nose (matchpots stupidly left by us on the window sill). She always enjoyed her food and ours if she was quick enough, one day as I spooned pasta bake into two dishes, I thought I must have imagined filling both bowls until I spotted Pascha behind me reaching up to the worktop! She also had a liking for dried rat and on one walk swallowed one whole, despite my best efforts to extract it from her jaws.

Pascha was unable to have her own puppies due to hereditary cataract so at two years of age she was joined by Wispa (Highcourt Makebelieve of Eveninghill) whom she adored. Pascha "helped" with Wispa's first litter and after that made a wonderful maiden aunt to all the puppies bred here at Eveninghill.

When Millie (Pandreft Naughty But Nice by Eveninghill) joined the household as a seven week puppy, Pascha and her became best friends, both such clever girls and with very similar personalities, they played relentlessly, never really knowing when enough was enough!

In Apr 08, just two weeks after the sudden loss of Wispa, Pascha was diagnosed with lymphoma. Without treatment life expectation would normally be around 4-6 weeks, so on the advice of our brilliant vets we immediately embarked on a course of chemotherapy. The protocol we undertook (COP) tended to cause less unwanted side effects which would allow her to have a good quality of life, something that was vital. Pascha did so well on the treatment quickly achieving remission for around 3 months, trotting into the vets on a weekly basis where she soon became a favourite. At the end of Aug Pascha became ill with pancreatitis and had to stay in the vets for five nights, it was a very worrying time. Somehow our brave girl managed to pull through and was able to come home. We were devastated when after a precious 10 days at home the lymphoma took a deeper hold of our baby. On 11 Sep 08 we knew the fight was over and gave our beloved Pascha peace. To know Pascha was to love her, she truly was an amazing dog, she could never be ignored, very much an in your face dog, always wanting a fuss, always ready to dribble on your clean jeans. There is huge gap in our house as she is so very much missed by us all but we try to take some comfort from the fact she knew how much we loved her as she did us. We only ever wanted what was best for her. We have so many happy memories of our golden girl, now reunited with her beloved Wispa.
