How it all Began .......from the club website
Early in 1969, a group of Scottish Dalmatian enthusiasts, led by Mr James S Hally, decided to form a club. Mr Alan Taaffe was appointed as Secretary pro term. The necessary number of members were gathered together and an application was made to The Kennel Club, with the backing of the North of England Dalmatian Club and The Scottish Kennel Club.
The Kennel Club informed Mr Taaffe in June 1970 the title of “Dalmatian Club of Scotland” had been granted. The inaugural General Meeting was called for Sunday 1st March 1970. There were forty-two founder members present and apologies from a further sixteen.
Mr Taaffe opened the meeting and called for nominations for chairman. Mr James Hally was appointed. Other appointments made were: Secretary - Mr A Taaffe, Treasure – Mr J Whyte, Hon. President – Mrs Alexander, President – Mr I Simpson, Vice Chairman – Mr G McVicar.
It was proposed that six members be elected from the floor to form the Committee. The six appointed were – Mrs C Whyte, Mrs McNair, Mr N Graham, Mrs A Simpson, Miss S Gatheral and Mrs C McVicar. It was proposed that a postal ballot would be used in the future, to elect Officers and Committee.
The first committee meeting was held on 12th April 1970. It was proposed to hold an open show as soon as possible and the date was 26th September 1970, with Mrs Cudd as the judge. There was an excellent entry of 75 entries from 32 dogs and 89 entries from 42 bitches. Best In Show was Mrs C Wharton with Clydevale Don Camillo, Best Opposite Sex was Miss S Gatheral with Konavlje Miss Gorgeous and Best Puppy In Show was Miss A Bale with Appaloosa Stardante.
Other successful open shows were held on 10th April 1971 and 1st April 1972. Application was made to the Kennel Club for Championship status in 1972 and Challenge Certificates were granted for 1973. The first Championship show was held on 10th March 1973 to be judged by Mrs Gore. Unfortunately Mrs Gore had to withdraw from the appointment and Mr D Cudd stepped in at the last moment.
