The British German Shepherd Dog Training Club is a Kennel Club registered club and has been in existence since 1928.
The club is split into three training departments,
COMPETITION OBEDIENCE-KC CC STATUS
BREED. For many years the club held Championship Show status attracting one of the largest entries whenever it was held, always with one overseas judge and on British judge officiating.
Recent disagreement with the Kennel Club about the health and well being of GSD show dogs and how to progress in the future saw BGSDTC take a moral stand and give up our CC status.
2010 also saw the better and the most progressive GSD breed clubs take a similar stand they too surrendering voluntarily their CC status.
These clubs have now joined together with other newly formed GSD clubs make up THE BRITISH REGIONAL GROUP.
We are now able to hold (Landesruppen)Regional Events under the WUSV (World Unon of German Shepherd Clubs) banner through our association with the GSD League of GB.
This is a momentous achievement and step forward for the GSD show community bringing us in line with not just Germany and Europe but with the rest of the world.
Coditions for entry at the WUSV are as follows.
ALL DOGS MUST BE IDENTIFIABLE (TATTOO OR MICROCHIP)
ALL DOGS OVER 12 MONTHS MUST PASS THE GUN TEST ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT.
ALL DOGS OVER TWO YEARS OLD MUST HAVE PASSED THE BREED SURVEY.
ALL DOGS OVER TWO YEARS OLD MUST HAVE BEEN HIP AND ELBOW X-RAYED AND HAVE AN ACCPTABLE GRADE.
DOGS ARE SHOWN IN AGE CLASSES ONLY.
Long coat classes are now scheduled at these events, again bringing us in line with the rest of the world.
2011 saw a long coat male adult share the podium with the VA dogs for the first time at the SIEGER show in Neuremberg.
These landesgruppen/Regional Events in this country currently operate independently but may in the future act as a qualifier for the British Sieger- ie dogs will have to have been exhibited and achieved a grading to qualify.
As with any new organisation rules and regulations may have to be modified to achieve the best result, but one thing is for certain BGSDTC is proud to be one of the founding members of the British Regional Group in the knowledge that we are genuinely promoting `FIT FOR PURPOSE` German Shepherd Dogs.
BGSDTC holds weekly training classes aimed at pet owners. We train and promote the KC Good Citizens scheme. This was initiated in 2011 and we have just recently had our first Bronze award winners.
BGSDTC have Challenge Certificate status and host a full weekend of competition in July every year.
We have an open show onthe Saturday and a Championship show on the Sunday, current venue is Brabyns Park Stockport.
We have a small group of people who compete on a regular basis all over the country, these same people are the ones who organise and run the BGSDTC competion weekend. 1000 entries is not uncommon.
