I have owned Shih Tzu since 2009.
My first Shih Tzu, a male, joined our family as a much loved pet.
I soon became besotted with the affectionate, playful character of the breed, so decided to get a playmate for him.
I found my second Shih Tzu, another male, 18 months later and not only was he a wonderful fun loving part of the family, I decided I would begin to show him.
We had success qualifying for Crufts five times during 2012 and again in 2013.
It's the best feeling, showing your dog at such a prestigious show as Crufts,
After showing for a couple of years, I realised I .... (click to read more)

It all started back in 1977, when my husband George and I were trying for a family. We had a few problems along the way, and the medical staff advised us/me to take up a hobby!  And from that day forward, I took an interest in showing dogs.

My first dog was called 'Skippy', a grey/white male Shih Tzu from the “Saleden” kennel in Carlisle. He did okay at open shows, but that was it -  I was hooked on dog showing!

Christine Solesby “Mingrovia” affix had a litter of puppies which we went to look at, and along came 'Tammy' (Champion Mingrovia Elite Petite Of Tameron), a .... (click to read more)

My husband and I have been breeding GCCF registered Persian cats for 25 years this year so the progression to Shih Tzu's is an understandable one since they have such similar features! We chose our bitch from a KC accredited breeder very carefully and were most choosy about where we went to stud to ensure the best quality pups would result. To us temperament is all important and our dogs live in the home with us and our cats and are included in daily events. Health of course is of equal importance and neither of our two Shih Tzu's have ever necessitated veterinary help other than their .... (click to read more)

Our dogs live with us and our small daughter in a family environment and residential setting. They are fed the best and want for nothing. They enjoy walks in the fields close to our home and have the company of each other, our huge cats and bomb proof chickens. They enjoy having a stay at home mum and the attention of any one calling that doesnt mind a hairy greeting.

They are of course from excellent pedigree lines and health tested parents as they are them selves if they are to have a litter.

Our puppies are reared in the home, socialised and trained to paper, wormed .... (click to read more)

We are based in Essex and are owners of bullmastiffs and shih tzus. I have had over ten years experience with the bullmastiff breed and have recently introduced the shih tzus into the family. All our dogs are use to a very busy household and have outstanding temperaments as a result. I have bred a recent litter with our Bonnie in order to continue her lines and she has produced quality pups which we will hopefully start showing with.

We dont have many litters but we aim to breed the traditional type of shih tzu and only usually have a Keeshond litter when we want one for ourselves , about every 3 to 4 years .

I am a small kennel in the north east of England. I was given an unwanted shih tzu 9 years ago and fell in love with the breed. I now show and occasionally breed a litter. I have had considerable success in the couple of years that I've been showing both at Championship, Club and Open shows. One of my girls Chyna was best puppy in breed at SKC August 2013 and was awarded the reserve challenge certificate at Driffield 2014 which qualifies her for Crufts for life. We are very proud of her as it was our first RCC. Big sister Dizzi also did us proud at Crufts when she got 2nd post graduate bitch, .... (click to read more)

We have dogs for the show ring
and pets for the fun thing!

Tony and Karen [Katonier Shih Tzu’s] are relatively new to the Showing World [5 years and counting..], and have the perfect blend of enthusiasm, passion and a willingness to pick up pearls of wisdom from those who have been showing for generations.

We belong to the niche of dog lovers that believe our Shih Tzu’s are pets first and show dogs second. We love showing and are hugely competitive, but it would all be for nothing if we couldn’t share the affection, fun and companionship of our Katonier Shih Tzu’s.
