He originated from southern Ireland and was used as a ground working dog for hunting vermin.
Characteristics
The Kerry blue terrier is a powerful and compact terrier. He is an upstanding dog, well developed and has a muscular body.
The coat is soft & silky and it does not moult. The Kerry blue is an affectionate dog who is absolutely loyal to his family.
The average size for a Kerry is between 16 Inches and 18 1/2 inches The male weighs 33 - 40 pounds where the bitch weighs slightly less.
Health
The Kerry blue is a healthy breed, generally not suffering with inherited health problems.
