All our dogs are first and foremost prominent members of our family. They have the best of care their health and happiness being of paramount importance to us. Ballyriver is a small kennel breeding Rhodesian Ridgebacks and Flatcoated retrievers.

  • Nicolas Oakley
    Bledlow
    Princes Risborough
    Current Health Tests

Ginny is our third flat coat and has a
lovely nature as they all have. She is
very fit and fast on her feet and
would most probably have been a
good gun dog had we chosen to
train her but we have kept her
purely as a pet. She is not gun shy
    and whenever she has the
opportunity on a walk to set up a
pheasant she does so as if born to
it! She needs a lot of exercise and
enjoys having a large garden to run
around in as well as an hour's walk
    every day.
We have found her to be a perfect
    pet, very affectionate and faithful.

I have loved dogs since I was a child & have owned Flatcoated Retrievers for 30 years, since I first fell in love with the breed. We have now moved to Herefordshire, where the dogs enjoy our lovely garden and nearby woodland walks.
I did not have my first litter until June 2004. Rosie was the foundation bitch of my Bonnyhilbrae kennel. From that first litter I kept Blossom, a lovely bitch with a .... (click to read more)

My dogs are well loved & well cared for pets who enjoy living in a family home, long walks amongst the Scottish countryside and life in general! Having been able to pick the brains of a show exhibitor friend I decided to breed my own FCR's with an emphasis on retaining the dual purposibility of the breed. I am a member of all 3 Flatcoat clubs and have been very lucky to gain the help of Shirley Oxford (Taranbeck) & the Forsters (Wizardwood) in planning my litter.

As vet myself, and having seen many breeds at work over the years, we have chosen to have Flat coated retrievers as our family pets primarily for their superb natures and love of life. Ciara has certainly lived up to all our expectations in this respect and has a fantastic temperament. She has also proved to have natural working ability and is a pleasure to take out in the field yet remains a loving pet who lives in the house as an integral part of our family. Her puppies will all be reared in the house and will be well socialised with young children, cats, chickens etc etc!!!

My husband bought me my first Flatcoat, Kesi as a softener for moving from my home in Surrey to Scotland in 2006 on his Army posting! She came from an excellent line of Spera Flatcoats bred by Shirley De Robbio in Ayrshire. I have not looked back or returned back to England. Scotland is now our home with a few more Flatcoats because 1 is just not enough!

Having successfully bred 3 litters of Flat-coated Retrievers, I have produced some really lovely pups. Some were chosen as family pets and some have done quite well in the show ring, some are working dogs, so good all-rounders .... (click to read more)

Our beautiful Bitch India came from the Quarrsflight Kennel in 2004.

We served our bitch, India with Breedon Bertie from Casblaidd, a handsome sire with a very gentle disposition. The resulting litter of twelve pups, seven bitch pups and five dogs have been outstanding and we are extremely proud of them.
