Flat-XP is a small Austrian kennel founded in 2003. The “XP” in the title is derived from “a wonderful eXPerience.”

Our love for flats started in 2001 when we bought our first bitch - Undine. She was very successful in shows and working tests and was awarded with many prizes, the most recent one in summer 2011.

Undine’s first litter consisted of 12 wonderful puppies of whom we kept Anna and Ally.

Our dogs are health screened according to the Austrian Retriever Club’s guidelines.

Nemo also partnered Louise Vaughan to the K.C.J.O. Junior Handler of the Year, showing the versatility of the Flatcoated Retriever.

Chris and Caroline are now carrying the affix into the next generation from their home in West Yorkshire.

They live in the country enjoying forest walks and love regular visits to the beach where they can swim.

Keira attends obedience training classes and also loves active involvement in Flyball. She has passed her Kennel Club Good Citizens Gold Test and is keen to learn.

Ceilidh is also going to training classes and has just passed her Silver test.

My husband bought me my first Flatcoat, Kesi as a softener for moving from my home in Surrey to Scotland in 2006 on his Army posting! She came from an excellent line of Spera Flatcoats bred by Shirley De Robbio in Ayrshire. I have not looked back or returned back to England. Scotland is now our home with a few more Flatcoats because 1 is just not enough!

Having successfully bred 3 litters of Flat-coated Retrievers, I have produced some really lovely pups. Some were chosen as family pets and some have done quite well in the show ring, some are working dogs, so good all-rounders .... (click to read more)

Ginny is our third flat coat and has a
lovely nature as they all have. She is
very fit and fast on her feet and
would most probably have been a
good gun dog had we chosen to
train her but we have kept her
purely as a pet. She is not gun shy
    and whenever she has the
opportunity on a walk to set up a
pheasant she does so as if born to
it! She needs a lot of exercise and
enjoys having a large garden to run
around in as well as an hour's walk
    every day.
We have found her to be a perfect
    pet, very affectionate and faithful.

My love of Flatcoats began over 28yrs ago with my 1st bitch bought from Mary Grimes. Gipsy was my constant companion and most loyal friend. My 2nd Flatcoat sadly passed away aged only 6 months from cancer. Whilst raising a very young family my love of the breed remained with me through my parents flatcoats.Since the children have reached school age, I returned to Mary Grimes and brought home Belsud Brown Ace my lovely gentle brown boy who is the apple of my eye.
I would like to thank Mary Grimes and Jo Hewison who think so highly of him and have given me invaluable advice and encouragement .... (click to read more)
