Eriksfjord is home to Nine Swedish Vallhunds.
Eriksfjord was the home of 'Erik the red' well known viking and seemed like a good name to have for my dogs given that my first vallhund was called Erik.
My love of Swedish Vallhunds comes from my first Swedish Vallhund "Erik the Viking". I rescued Erik from the RSPCA at about 13 years of age. Erik was a joy to live with and the most devoted dog I had ever owned up to that point. He is also responsible for getting me in the show ring through his love of attending exemption shows - now called companion shows - where he nearly always won the veteran class.
My next Swedish Vallhund "Trixi" came as a puppy and several months later I gained "Jack" a wonderful gift from the Starvon Kennels. Later Jack sired a litter and I had "Spike" his only son. Trixi, Jack and Spike were then joined a few years later by "Xena" and "Alfie". Hanna arrived to join us in March 2008. Hanna is Alfie's mother and has settled in well with the other dogs. Kiki was born in 2008 and is the daughter of Alfie & Xena. Ava joined us in March 2009. Mikey arrived with a bang in April 2010 as the only puppy and son of Hanna and Spike.
Swedish Vallhunds are devoted and loyal dogs thriving best in the family home. They love children and enjoy human company - being in thier element when there are visitors! All of my Vallhunds are first and foremost my beloved pets. They only grace the show ring if they enjoy it! Any success they achieve is fantastic however regardless of the accolades they may gain I always know that I am taking the best dog/s home from a show.
The aims of Eriksfjord are to demonstrate "the versitile vallhund" through working, showing and doing agility with my own dogs. My main considerations when breeding are temperment and producing vallhunds that are true to the breed standard.
All Eriksfjord breeding stock are hip scored and eye tested. Vallhunds are a healthy breed and these tests are undertaken in order to ensure that this remains the case.
I am proud of the show results of all my dogs. Jack, Spike, Xena, Alfie & Kiki have thier stud book numbers, Trixi is busy having fun out as a veteran and has won Best Veteran at a Championship show and many veteran awards at Open Shows. Alfie has hit the show ring big time has won many awards at Open Shows including RBIS, BPIS & RBPIS. He has also done well at Championship Shows being consistently placed in the top 2 in his class and is now a Champion. Spike is also a Champion having gained his challenge certificates at the national, Welsh Kennel and Scottish Kennel which is an unusual achievement. Spike also has 3 RCC's including one won as a veteran at Crufts 2010. Xena now has 2 RCC's and is showing her daughter how things are done. Jack has also won several veteran classes, a veteran group and Best Veteran in Show at Open Shows. Jack also won the RCC and Best Veteran in Breed at Darlington Championship Show in 2008 - proving that with a Vallhund it is never to late!
Spike has 3CC's & 3 RCC's & 1 BOB and Alfie has 3CC's & 3 BOB's. Spike has won his classes at Crufts for the last two years and in 2010 got Reserve Best Dog. Alfie is the first male UK champion in the breed with a full tail. Alfie also became the first vallhund in the UK with a full tail to place in an adult group at a championship show in November 2007.
Alfie also has his Junior Warrant which we are very proud of as this makes him the only vallhund with this award under the current system. Both Spike and Alfie have thier Show Certificate of Merit awards. This makes Alfie the only Vallhund in the country to currently hold all 3 show awards.
In Ireland Spike has 3 Green Stars, 2 reserve Green Stars and 3 Best of Breeds, Kiki has 5 Green Stars and 5 Reserve Green Stars & Xena has 2 Green Stars and 3 reserve green stars & 1 BOB. In order to become an Irish Champion you need 7 Green Stars. Alfie has also got 2 reserve green stars. In order to win a green star or reserve green star the dogs have to be graded excellent indicating that they are of champion quality.
Kiki has also been confirmed as an Irish Junior Champion and is the first Swedish Vallhund to gain this award. Not to be outdone her brother Oscar (Eriksfjord Wilde Bean) has been winning well and recently won his class at Crufts 2010. Oscar is handled and owned by Lois who is doing an amazing job and reminding us all how things can be done!
All puppy enquirers will be asked to complete a questionnaire, given the offer of meeting the vallhunds and asked relevant questions. At Eriksfjord a good loving home is the most important requirement for one of our puppies. Our next plans for breeding will be during 2011.
Eriksfjord puppies come microchipped, KC registered and with full information regarding thier care and on going support. They are raised in the home and are appropriately socialised with other dogs, children and people. Eriksfjord puppies are carefully bred using the best of lines from around the world. Puppies are bred for sound temperments and good construction. Eriksfjord is a Kennel Club Assured Breeder and has been since the scheme began, this is because I believe the scheme asks breeders to meet the minimum standards required for breeding and we surpass those requirements. Recently the Eriksfjord Puppy Pack won the KC competition for the best ABS puppy pack and will now be used as a national template for ABS breeders.
