LaBayamesa Havanese, a small hobby breeder, are based in the East Midlands. Our philosophy is to value quality above quantity.
Our dogs are part of the family, and used to being rather spoilt!
We take part in shows in the UK and abroad to ensure that breed standards are not only met but continually improved.
Health testing: Havanese are a generally robust and healthy breed, but occasionally hereditary problems do occur. It is therefore essential that all dogs that are to be bred are adequately screened for the more common problems.
Eye testing: mainly for juvenile cataracts- if you are buying a puppy in the UK, you should ask to see the parents' eye test results as a minimum.
Patella: Luxating knee caps can be a problem in a number of breeds. Where tested, the luxation is graded from 0-5, with 0 being completely normal and 5 the most severe form
Hip scoring: Testing in Havanese is recommended in US and Canada, but it is not commonly done in the UK. This means that as few Havanese are hip scored locally, we do not have UK comparative values. However, when looking at scores internationally, it appears that they should be below 16-18 to ensure the dog is fit for function.
Short Hair gene: Havanese can carry a short hair gene; if both parents carry it, short-haired puppies can be born. It's not a disease as such, but short haired Havanese moult and are not of the desired breed standard. A simple genetic test can identify carriers.
Our Havanese are health tested beyond the standard recommended by the breed club in the UK.

Foxie (Foxy Lady By LaBayamesa) is a beautiful gold sable girl from Coco's first litter.
She is a little character, very much like her mum, and we are looking forward to watching her develop and grow.
