Four Legged Friendship!

Our small, select Kennel on the outskirts of Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, has been the home to both chocolate and black Labrador Retrievers since 1987 when our real interest in the showing & working of this lovely breed began.
Shortly afterwards, our KC Affix was granted & we have shown Labradors ever since, making many lovely friends, canine & others, along the way.

My husband & myself are both Founder Members of The Wiltshire Working Gundog Society and in the past, have been active within The United Retriever Club with whom we have trained our own dogs, participating and assisting at Working Gundog Tests & Trials run by these societies.

Having firstly been accepted onto The Breed Council 'C' List, I first began judging at Open Show level in 1994.
Later, I was subsequently included on the KC BREED COUNCIL 'B' LIST FOR LABRADOR RETRIEVERS.
Since then, I have been invited to judge Labradors in many parts of the UK which has given me great pleasure..
I have also served the West of England Labrador Retriever Club as a working Committee member for over 20 years.

Although we may describe ourselves as a 'Kennel', our 4 girls share our home & live indoors with us!
Indeed, first and foremost, our dogs form part of a family environment and are bred for a sweet & biddable temperament as well as type.
Basic Gundog instruction is a 'natural pathway' to any youngster that we retain and some adults have later progressed to working on local shoots.

In June 2015 & at the young age of 26 months, we have been so thrilled to have made up OUR FIRST HOME BRED TITLE HOLDER in the chocolate male..
(SH) CH MEADOWLEIGH BROWN SUGAR..
WE ARE SO DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE'S'S OWNER ANNIE HAS HANDLED WES FOR ASSESSMENT ON A SHOOT on January 28th 2016..WHERE JUDGES AWARDED HIM HIS SHOW GUNDOG WORKING CERTIFICATE...WHICH NOW MAKES HIM A FULL CHAMPION ( subject to KC Approval)

Born in April 2013, 'WES JUNIOR' was selected by us for his owners from a litter of 7 whelped by our 'Ruby' (M MARIELLA) a chocolate daughter of Maisie..Treburrow Tamsyn of Meadowleigh.
Wes's show successes have been outstanding with Labrador Breed Judges awarding him 8 CHALLENGE CERTIFICATES & 6 RESERVE CC's to date with 11/11 wins in his LIMIT CLASSES at Championship shows.*

BEING MEMBERS OF THE KC ASSURED BREEDERS SCHEME OR ABS, under up to date KC Regulations, we were inspected in 2014 & have been awarded the latest UKAS ACCREDITATION CERTIFICATE.
Under the scheme, we have 2 Accolades & strive to produce sound, healthy, well adjusted puppies, reared in a family environment, through breed knowledge and careful management combined with consistently using the established BVA / KC Breed Health Screening Schemes.

An occasional litter is bred and this is generally when we wish to keep a puppy for ourselves.

Prospective owners are welcome to visit and view our kennels and adults beforehand - Advice and discussion are always encouraged and contact is frequently maintained throughout the entire life of the dog.

Treburrow Tamsyn of Meadowleigh - 'Maisie'
(Ballyduff Oak 1CC x Treburrow Jenny's Wren JW) has long reached 'retirement' and is now heading towards her 13th Birthday in June 2014.
She knows that in the Meadowleigh household, she is still regarded as 'the boss' of her canine family and as long as she remains relatively fit and healthy, she will continue to enjoy her outings with them often or maybe just when she feels like it.

Now that 'Maisie' is considered to be a 'Veteran' Plus, we are happy to let her doze and dream for far more hours in the day!

UPDATE:
Maisie achieved her 13th Birthday in June but very sadly, her time to say goodbye came on September 5th 2014, after a poorly week. We shall never forget the special joys she brought to our family & we have included a little tribute on her page.

Maisie was shown sucessfully from puppyhood, achieving Championship Show Firsts and consistent other show placings, including Best of Breeds and Gundog Group Awards.
She also possesses sound working ability.

'Maisie' has produced three litters.
In 2005 she produced three lovely puppies in her first litter from which we kept her only chocolate daughter, 'Ruby' - M Mariella.

Sired by Mofz Finnegan by Treburrow JW, 'Ruby' has pleased us by achieving several Best Puppy awards and gaining other show credits in her earlier days.
She has that willing to please and sweet nature just like her mother!
You can find details of 'Ruby's puppies on her Litter pages.

Maisie's second litter of 3 quality boys arrived in May 2007 from which we kept 'Leo' - M Gentle Promise who was successfully shown and qualified for Crufts.
'Leo' now lives locally and you can view him on our 'Bred here' pages

****** UPDATE **********************
AUGUST 3RD 2015
WE ARE SHOCKED & HEARTBROKEN TO HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THAT THAT OUR BEAUTIFUL ELLA IS NO LONGER WITH US.
AFTER A POORLY WEEKEND during 1st/2nd of August 2015, she never returned home with us from our Vets.

Our family is devastated at losing such a lovely girl at only 6 years young & we all miss her so much.
We had a mating planned but it was not to be.
This means that there are no puppies of hers to continue her line through BRIGBURN..but perhaps in the future, we shall return to Northhumberland to try again.
ELLA WAS ALWAYS MARTIN'S FAVOURITE & SHE WOULD LITERALLY STAND ON HER HEAD FOR HIM..
WE SHALL WRITE A TRIBUTE ON HER PAGE..

Maisie's third & final litter in Jan 09, gave us our other black bitch,THE LATE Meadowleigh Morella SHCM...'Ella' - her sire being Brigburn Sedge bred by Lynda Heron in Northumberland.

In May 2015, she was awarded the KC SHOW CERTIFICATE OF MERIT.

PLEASE READ OUR UPDATE 3/7/15 but you can find out further details about Ella on her page.

Through Sedge's Grandsire, Brigburn Zenny, we had regained the link which we once had with the Brigburn kennel which is well known for producing sound and successful Dual Purpose Labradors of the type & temperament we admire.

'Zenny' had sired our black male M Musketeer -'Badger' (1996 to 2007)

The relevant Kennel Club / British Veterinary Health Screening Schemes (KC / BVA) are consistently followed by ourselves as are the Kennel Club and the Labrador Retriever Breed Club, Code of Ethics.

As responsible and caring breeders, and prior to being accepted by the KC as Accredited Breeders in 2009 (currently KC ASSURED BREEDERS & UKAS INSPECTED in 2014) we had always previously followed the Breed-Specific recommendations and requirements as laid down by the Kennel Club.

As a family,we always had dogs - My father regularly trained gundogs and I would often accompany him rough shooting when we lived in Pembrokeshire, South Wales.
Although my husband Martin, myself & our 2 children, enjoyed sharing our home with a Beagle for over 14 years, our real interest in Labradors began some 28 years ago when we acquired our first chocolate puppy from the highly regarded Ravencrest Kennel belonging to the late Mrs Cathy Wilkins (nee Crocker)
This lovely chunky puppy was very special right from the start and being the only girl in a litter of boys, she was the source of great excitement and delight within our family!
Born during the month of May, hence May Blossom - our children named her 'Jessie'.
Later on, she became our foundation, bitch - Ravencrest May Blossom of Meadowleigh.
Bred from Follytower / Lawnwoods lines, it was 'Jess' who stimulated our interest firstly in showing and subsequently in the working side of the breed, proving to be successful at all levels as well as becoming a Good Citizens Dog.

It has always been our desire to see the Labrador continue it's progress as potentially a working and showing Retriever, thus retaining it's natural ability alongside, what is absolutely essential in our breed - namely a wonderful temperament.
