After having grown up in America regularly seeing and loving Malamutes and Huskies, I finally realised my dream of owning one in June 2000 when my husband and I received late word that a puppy had become unexpectedly available. One week later Freya made the long trip home from Ireland with us and her new 'brother', Loki, our (then) 7 year old German Shepherd.
She is one of the best things that ever happened to us.
As the pick of the litter, I agreed to try showing her. She was an instant success in the ring, despite my terribly inexperienced (and nervous!) handling. She was Best Puppy in Breed and then Puppy Group 2! She has never looked back!
Up to March 2003 she had won at Open shows:
7 Best Puppy of Breed Alaskan Malamute,
7 Best Puppy in various AVs (NSC, Working, Rare Breeds),
17 Best Of Breed Alaskan Malamute,
11 Reserve Best of Breed Alaskan Malamute
9 Best of Breed various AVs,
5 Reserve Best of Breed various AVs
6 Group placings
RESERVE BEST IN SHOW
and at Champ shows
26 First places
4 Reserve Best of Sex
3 Best of Sex
numerous placings in Stakes classes including a 1st in the Pet Plan Junior Stakes (she is the only Malamute to have done so)
Best Junior In Show, AMC Show 2001
Best Import In Show, AMC Show 2001
In the Alaskan Malamute Club of GB Malamute of the Year (MOYA) awards for 2001:
Special Beginner Of The Year
Import Of The Year
2nd Bitch OTY
3rd Malamute of the Year overall

In 2003 we decided to take the full plunge into the world of pedigree dogs and bred our first litter. 2 years of research, learning and planning went into it. Almost immediately we started planning the next breeding, which didn't take place for another 2 years. I made several trips back to America to research dogs and pedigrees and meet breeder/owners and dogs in person. It was a lot of fun and I made some wonderful friends along the way. Best of all, the results were everything I only dared dream for! Our 3rd litter was taken upon by the dogs themslves, despite kennelling the offending father - let that be a lesson to everyone, you can never predict a bitch in season! At the FIRST sign of season get your dogs seperated! The litter was very lovely though and we look forward to seeing them in the show ring soon. We have just whelped our 4th litter on 1st Aug 2007.This time we have gone to one of the UK's top winning dogs over the last few years, Austmans Akutabuv (Ike); more details can be found on our website and on the current litter links on this page. Our next litter is planned for Spring 2008 and will be another American breeding.
Keep checking this site and our website for updates on our all our future plans.

OVER THE RAINBOW BRIDGE JUNE 2004, EXTREMELY MISSED AND NEVER FORGOTTEN
Last but not least, our wonderful 'unregistered' GSD, Loki. He came to live with us as a 9 months very big and exuberant untrained puppy. After many fraught months he finally settled into life with us, even though at nearly 10 he still goes nuts if I even leave his side. He is only happy being left if he is in the car (he has made for some great anecdotes due to trying to leave him at home or in 'unentered dog' tents at shows!), wants to be the center of attention, but doesn't want too much, and runs and plays like he's still 2 years old. We don't expect we'll ever find another like him.
footnote: Loki has since been registered as a working dog as 'Hunkpapa of Tuvaurat' so he can be entered as Not For Competion at shows.
'Hunkpapa' is the eldest of the tribe in Native American cultures.

'Tuvaurat' is an Inuit word, in the dialect of the region the Mahlemuts are from, for the sword or belt of the constellation Orion (the Hunter). It's literal translation is 'little hunters'.
