Dogs have been part of our lives since we were married nearly twenty five years ago. We have nearly always had retrievers of some sort, mostly black labradors to start with. About nine years ago we changed to an Italian Spinone and was lucky enough to qualify him for Crufts. We had always had a desire to keep Golden Retrievers and we were lucky enough to find Sheppador Blue Velvet (Kira) just over three years ago. First and foremost she belongs to the family and therefore lives with the cats, rabbits, guniea pigs and all the rest of the meagerie and oh yes and our three daughters! After she had eyes, hips and elbows checked we decided to let Kira have a couple of litters, the second and final born May this year (see litter page) She will now retire and become more acustomed to the sofa and any other comfy spot she can find. Long walks in the heart of the countryside where we live and any muddy puddle are her favorites. We will be keeping one of her babies this time to replace our last labrador who sadly succumbed to cancer late last year at the age of thirteen. Named Niamh - because I have great problems spelling it - we may breed from her in years to come however this will depend on health checks and her. first and foremost our retrievers are our family members |
