We are fortunate to live in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the North Downs in Kent, of which approx 14 acres belongs to us, allowing our Retrievers the freedom to exercise on our own land.
Our love affair with Golden Retrievers began over twenty years ago. We were looking for a family pet and a Retriever seemed to be the most suitable dog to match our circumstances. We visited a breeder and saw the litter together with the dam and our young sons played with the puppies, (or was it the other way round). Slowly all the puppies except one returned to be with their mother, this puppy just wanted to be with our boys and naturally we took her home with us. We always say that Emma picked us rather than the other way round, and it was from that moment on there could never be another breed for us.
Today we own three Golden Retrievers including one that came to us as a rescue. They are all first and foremost family pets and all live in the house with us, after all they are members of the family.
Swizzle (Jubilant Jolly Jack) is our eldest dog and there is nothing he enjoys more than doing agility or obedience work with our eldest son. Then there is Gabby, our rescue who had an unfortunate start to life – she still thinks she is a lap dog and loves to be loved and gives plenty in return.
Then there is Somer (Stanroph Santa Elena) who we showed as a puppy and was placed in every class we entered. Friends have used us to socialise their puppies and when we are looking after a puppy, Somer’s maternal nature always comes to the fore. This encouraged us to breed for the first time, which we did in consultation with Anne Woodcock (Somer’s breeder) and who helped select the sire. Our thanks to Anne for all her help and support.
All our dogs are obedience trained and puppies socialised. We are registered with the Kennel Club and are members of the Golden Retriever Club and the Southern Golden Retriever Society.
