Fawn & Black Puppies born 23rd March 2008 Breagh in Playful Mood photo by: Tartuffe Breagh | | Around 2002 I decided to purchase another dog and as much as I dearly loved my golden retriever I decided I would like another breed. Having enjoyed dog obedience training for a number of years I also decided that as my children were now young adults the timing was right to try the world of dog showing.
In my search for a new breed I came across pictures of a black Briard (Ruth Bumstead’s) and a fawn (Jenny Snelling’s), in a book by David Alderton, and fell instantly in love with the Briard. After my initial attraction to the look and size of the Briard I began to do some homework into the breed type and what lay within what has been popularly described as ‘a heart wrapped in fur’. I first carefully identified what I wanted in my new breed; having ‘played’ at obedience for many years, participated in a few agility courses and now having a desire to try the world of showing; a breed which could accommodate versatility was important, along with it came the need for characteristics such as intelligent, obedient, spirited and lively. These characteristics also had to be able to accommodate family life so faithful, gentle, loving, loyal, a desire to please and be easily trained were attributes added to the list. By the time I had finished researching the Briard I realised the breed was loaded with my desired characteristics and therefore a perfect match.
Having never bred a litter of pups the decision to breed Breagh wasn’t an easy one. I was and still am so-so conscious of the importance of finding good homes for puppies and taking on the life long support role of the litter. With help and advice I decided on what I believe to be the ideal mate for Breagh and was absolutely delighted when his owners agreed.
